A Typical Tuesday Empty A Typical Tuesday

Post by JollyLabyrinth Thu Jul 21, 2016 7:10 pm

Sam sat on his stool in his corner of the ring and took a large swig from his gallon-sized water bottle. The crowd around the ring was lively as ever; it was good to back where he belonged. "And that's the SECOND man to fall this evening to the Crimson Scar!" Cried the announcer, a man by the name of Peter Burnslow, but Sam preferred to just call him "Rat-face" due to his oddly shaped nose. Rat-face always played up the crowd like it was reality television; as ridiculous as it was, Sam found him amusing. Helped keep him pumped up for fights in these gauntlet matches. Surprisingly, though, Sam wasn't even remotely tired despite having just knocked out his second opponent of the evening; he found that more liberally using his powers in the ring gave him quite the significant advantage, and saved him a ton of energy.
"Our next contestant is a surprise entry! Those of you who have attended our fights here before, you know who he is. You've seen him, you like him, some of you may have even been clobbered and thrown out by him, give it up for ORLANDOOOO!" Rat-face cried, pumping his fist into the air like an absolute lunatic. Sam was more focused on his surprise that the bouncer - and his best friend - had decided to go toe-to-toe with him in the ring. The tall, muscular black man sauntered to his corner of the ring, a cocky smile on his lips.
"Howdy, Sam. Figured I'd welcome you back on your first day back from your break." He said with a grin.
"Funny way of doing it pal. Most people would buy their buddy a beer and call it a day." Sam called back. He was looking forward to this fight; most of the time people in the ring were a head taller than him at the most; Orlando towered over Sam, and was easily twice his shoulder width. On top of that, Sam knew how tough he was; he had seen Orlando take a shotgun blast and keep moving. Granted, the blast was at quite a distance, so most of the pellets missed, but the point still stood. And so did the big guy.
"You all ready to see some VIOLENCE?!" Rat-face screamed. The crowd of about two and half, maybe three dozen people cried out, some waving their betting stubs in the air. "You ready?" He turned and looked at Orlando. Without waiting for a response and reiterated the question to Sam. "Then three... Two... One... FIGHT!" Rat-face leapt out of the ring, and the two fighters raised their fists.

A Typical Tuesday Empty Re: A Typical Tuesday

The anonymity of the roaring crowd and the entertaining violence, George loved it all. Moving through the crowd in his brand new leather bomber jacket, he was heavy on cash, practically having walked into several mini-marts and walked out with the cash like he owned the place. It wasn't his fault if the only night cashier had dashed off running from a few measly wasps. It made him loaded with cash to blow.

The bookie, was taking out cash, the bets were open until the first punches were thrown. Full on fresh cash George put a roll of twenties on Crimson Scar, a man he'd seen fight before a few times, he'd never seen this Orlando but with the way Scar hit like a man twice his size there was no way he was going down to a man literally twice his size. Rat-face did little to psyche The Hive up, his mind was clear on who he thought was going to win, he wasn't a fighting savant or some kind of martial arts expert but he felt he knew what a good fighter looked like. They were both excellent, but George felt that Orlando was going down.

George settled into the ringside ready to watch the fight, this was going to be good. The Hive was going to enjoy every second of it and used it to train his bugs in espionage.  Teaching them how to relay properly what was going on, he only needed one of each, strategically positioned in various places, they would teach their own kinds. So for now he would continue to watch the fight. There was going to be no foul play, considering how well these two knew each other but it was still going to be a good exercise for his little critters.

Orlando stepped forward and threw the first punch, an easy left hook that Sam hardly had to lower his head to dodge. As he rose back to his normal position, he was about to start mocking his friend for such a half-assed punch, but before he could open his mouth he got a powerful right jab smack in his face. He reeled backwards, stumbling back to the ropes. He blinked for a moment, glad that Orlando wasn't following up in the punches; he intended to give the crowd a good show, much like Sam did. "That how you say 'Welcome back' to an old friend?" Sam asked, his trademark wolfish grin on his lips; he felt a trickle of blood dropping out of his nose.
Orlando smiled. "You know it, Sammy. Now you gonna get up, or you need a wake up call?"
Sam laughed and pushed himself off the ropes back into the ring, raising his fists again. He began lightly bouncing back and forth, keeping mobile. He knew that Orlando used his raw strength to go for quick knockouts; dodge, dodge, hit. Easy pattern. Orlando took another swing, which Sam ducked away from. Second punch came, Sam sidestepped, and he was on Orlando's right side, his torso wide open. He struck Orlando just beneath the armpit with as much natural force as he could muster, seeing how hard he'd have to hit to stagger Orlando. To his surprise, Orlando hardly stumbled more than a step before whirling around and driving a fast left cross right towards Sam's face. He allowed his blood pull him out of the way of the punch; Orlando's eyes widened as Sam moved impossibly quick out of the way, and Sam grinned; he found he loved that look in his opponent's eyes. The moment they knew he was too much to handle. Sam delivered a cracking right cross straight into Orlando's face, putting a large amount of his blood powers behind it, sending Orlando sprawling to the ropes on the other side. Sam took the opportunity and lowered his fists, turning around to play the crowd a bit.
"Jesus, Sam... Now I know why you got so few repeat fighters." Orlando wheezed, laughing slightly. Sam turned around and smirked; he could see from here he had already broken Orlando's nose. "Don't suppose it's too late to ask you to go easy on your old pal right?"
Sam laughed. "Would you?"
"Hell naw." Orlando responded; he pushed off the ropes and rushed at Sam. He had a brief flashback to his fight with the pipsqueak at the Fireopal all those weeks back; this was almost exactly what Sam did. And it was the thing that got Sam beaten by a kid. He lowered his stance and didn't even try to dodge the behemoth of a man. Instead, he waited, and right when he was in range, delivered a powerful uppercut straight to Orlando's jaw, putting a huge amount of blood power behind it. The force of the punch physically knocked Orlando into the air, causing him to flip onto his back with a loud thud. The entire room went silent, save the buzzing of a few insects around the room. Sam froze for a moment, worried he might have killed Orlando in getting carried away. To his relief, his friend let out a groan and raised his hand lightly. "Uncle..." He moaned.
Rat-face instantly leaped into the ring. "I heard it and you heard it, folks! The Crimson Scar triumphs over his third and FINAL contestant of tonight's gauntlet match! Take your stubs to the bookie to collect your winnings, our next fight starts in FIFTEEN MINUTES! An 'Ambassador Match' between our very own Janitor and a newcomer from the Masked Man's Gang of Misfits, MUTE!"
As the crowd moved to collect their stubs and get more drinks, Sam offered Orlando a hand to get up. "Man, I knew you were tough, but I didn't expect to get my ass whipped that bad and that fast."
Sam shrugged and flashed a grin. "What'd you expect? There's a reason I'm in the ring every night and you're watching the door." The two friends shook hands, and Orlando went off to the changing rooms. Sam made his way to a corner of the room; he was interested to see the next fight, interested in what Charon's men had to offer in the ring. He cracked open his water bottle and took a long drink, taking a moment to clear his head after the fight.

A Typical Tuesday Empty Re: A Typical Tuesday

Post by Shooter Solomon Thu Jul 21, 2016 10:51 pm

The Fight was over almost as quickly as it began, a few punches and the big guy went down as the Crimson outmaneuvered him, laying the black man out with punch that would have knocked anyone else's teeth into the next county, and kill those of weaker constitution. It was just as George had predicted and though his predictions were sometimes hit and miss he knew that betting on Crimson Scar was a safe bet even if the bookies didn't think so.

That was another win. Feeling like Charlie with the golden ticket George passed the slip to the payout window and received his money back, quickly stuffing it into his pants pockets under his half zipped jacket, the place was hot and noisy with all the bodies and physical exertion going on, but he kept his accessories tight, he was a pickpocket and knew how to avoid being victim of the same.

Having such a big win George felt beholden to the source of that money for a little extra of the cut, most would leave the fighters their cut and scram with their winnings, but The Hive's survival instinct was ticking, Crimson Scar was strong and there was no reason not to at least introduce himself to the guy.

So moving over across the room George, pulled one of the rolls of twenties from his pocket it was an easy few hundred dollars and thanks to all his bets on the Scar he won handily. As he approached the man he tossed the fat stack of cash at him in a lazy unassuming arc as the man lowered his water bottle. "Names George Moran." He introduced himself in a cold fashion. "You won big in there tonight. I wanted to show my appreciation."

Sam nearly dropped his water bottle down as he caught the cash, an unexpected turn of events; he was used to people approaching him and telling him they enjoyed his fight, but this... Was different. He looked up at the man with his trademark wolfish grin. "Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Moran!" He said cheerily, offering a hand to shake; he normally didn't spend time out here after the fights as he didn't like socializing in his fighting attire, which only consisted of a set of boxing shorts, allowing his scarred torso to be seen by all. Tonight was his first night back in weeks, and he was excited for it, so why not talk with some of the viewers and enjoy the other fights? "Good to be back here after the weeks I've been having. And what do you mean appreciation? What, did you really bet on the guy who just came back from a bullet injury?" He laughed; he was still on his post-fight high, very giddy and very talkative. "Even if you did, if you can toss the winnings back to the guy who's doing the fight, what's there for you to thank me for?"

George took the fighter's hand and shook it firmly. He returned the wolfish grin with his own sly smirk. "Appreciation? I mean you won me a lot of money tonight, and I valued your contribution to my winnings in such a way that you should have a larger cut of them." George released the man's grasp and crossed his arms lazily showing that he was relaxed around the fighter, he was very at ease around dangerous people, in Georges eyes that meant an attacker had higher priority targets than a leather jacket wearing scumbag.

"And as for just coming back? That just told me you wanted it more than anyone else that stepped in that ring. Motivation is the best characteristic of a fighter. Without will to win nobody even puts there dukes up. So really like a good drug you just needed another hit of the stuff that makes you produce that wonderful grin."

Sam nodded, impressed. "Wise words from a man in leather." He smirked; he waved his hand, shooing away something buzzing near his ear. "And it's always nice to be appreciated. But to be honest, I don't think I remember seeing your face here before. Granted, I could be forgetting. Normally just see the faces of those in the ring."

"Oh no." George waved his hand dismissively, "I'm not a fighter, I come down and drop a few bills on the fighters, I like watching them. I mean I've brawled on the street but who hasn't." George waved his hand by the insect buzzing near Sam's ear it would go away the fly seemed to be reasonable and go about its business bothering some other sweaty fighter whose scent was equally attractive to the bug.

"So you gotta tell me how ya' do it?" Started the full pocketed fan, "How do you hit so hard, you hit like a guy three times your size?" George looked around and leaned in close, "Is there some secret martial-arts technique to it?" George leaned in and reached out putting an arm around his new friend, "Or maybe you have a power? Super Strength? Weight Alteration?"

Sam instinctively leaned back as the man grew closer to him. "Well, more and more people have been guessing at it these days since I've not been hiding it so much, so I guess there's no point in hiding it anymore." Sam reached up to his bloody nose, wiped some of the blood off with his fingers, and looked at the crimson. "This is my secret." He turned his fingers to show the blood to George. "My blood. I can control it, how it moves through me. I want my arm to have maximum strength moving in for a punch? I push the blood in my arm with the muscle. Want to move faster? More efficient blood flow. Last longer in a fight." Sam gestures to his nose, and the bleeding almost immediately stops. "Stop the bleeding. Now, of course I know how to fight well, been doing it most of my life, and I usually don't like using my powers in the ring, but hey, life's been throwing me a few curveballs recently, and I need to exercise my powers. This is like lifting some weights for me; won't help me get stronger, but keeps me in shape."

Post by Shooter Solomon Fri Jul 22, 2016 12:49 am

Well. Well. Well. George didn't actually think that Sam would open up that quickly, and it was something else, all together than what he'd thought it was, blood manipulation. That was a type of power one didn't see every day. It was quite magnificent when one brought the line of thinking to its conclusion, you could be stronger and faster than your opponent as long as you had enough control of your blood.

"That's quite the power." George responded with a little smile, holding up a hand and revealing four house spiders in it standing still in his hand in a box formation waiting for some kind of order. "Unlike your power mine isn't exactly for fighting you see." The Hive rolled his hand once and the spiders were gone, he would look into Sam's eyes with a Sly smile, "Not much use in a strait up fight, you see."

Sam stared at the man for a moment. "Spiders... Your power is... Spiders?" He raised an eyebrow; true, the powers may not be useable directly in a fight, but that didn't make the power any less unnerving. Sam wasn't a fan of bugs of any sort, but spiders... Too many legs. He stood up, tucking the wad of cash into his pocket.
"That's, ah... Well, while I'm pretty sure I could still beat you in a fist fight, I still wouldn't really want get on your bad side." Sam was clearly made uneasy by this odd power.

"It's not just spiders. By the way has that fly bothered you anymore?" George asked insinuating that his powers weren't just spiders but insects as a whole. "That's the point, I'm not very strong in a fight, but I'm useful, observant and downright sneaky. I think you and I would make a great friends."

The Hive withdrew his arms back to himself and gave the unsettled man his distance, there were a lot of creepy crawly things that made even the biggest baddest bad asses into whimpering little girls, for some it was rats, others it was heights, and some it was the nastiest little creepy crawlies.

"My cell number is on the band securing that roll of cash I tossed at you, if you need someone like me, I think we could help each other out. I think that cooperation would be beneficial to both of us."

There was a murmur in the crowd, the next fighters would be making their way into the room. "With all the business done, maybe we can get back to this evenings pleasure, tell me what's your first impression of these next two fighters?"

A Typical Tuesday Empty Re: A Typical Tuesday

Post by JollyLabyrinth Fri Jul 22, 2016 1:47 am

Sam shook his head; the man was being incredibly forward with his proposal of a partnership, but Sam was never one to turn this sort of thing down. He seemed like a man who gathered information, who knew things, and that was useful in the underground. He took another drink of water and answered the man's question. "Well, the Janitor's got that name for a reason; man cleans up like no other. He's another pal of mine, I've fought along side him. Almost seven feet and two hundred pounds of pure muscle. Even with my powers, if he got a hit on me like Orlando did, pretty sure I'd be down for the count. Issue is he's slow. I've been able to beat him without using my powers at all. What makes him such a force in an actual fight is how he can use a shotgun and a baton." He shrugs. "Now, Mute, I dunno much about. Comes from a different gang, one Father has decided to take under his wing. This is the reason it's called an 'Ambassador Match'. The house winnings is going to whichever's gangs representative wins. I know more about Janitor, so I think he'll win, but Mute, well... He can take a beating. Man had his tongue cut out as a kid to my understanding, so he knows how to cope with pain. And if he doesn't go down quick, Janitor's gonna get tired."

"Damn." George responded when informed about the Mute kid. "That's hardcore, some people die from having their tongues cut out." Then again it took more than disfiguration to show that one was a good fighter, though he knew some people would cut their own arms off it if made them a better combatant. "So you've beaten the Janitor before. Not bad."

"You mentioned the Janitor uses weapons when he's on the street. A Shotgun and Baton or something like that. Do you?" George inquired, looking around, many of the muscle heads he talked to thought their muscles would be enough in a fight, but muscles didn't stop bullets. It was while George carried a Nine in his waistband in a modified holster. Such an object upped his chances of survival, after all his power had no real defensive or powerful offensive capabilities. Sam on the other hand, his power had all sorts of offensive and defensive uses, it wouldn't surprise The Hive if the man went into any situation with just muscle.

Sam shrugged. "Normally when I go into a fight, it's not gonna be much of a fire fight and more close-quarters things; I'm sent to infiltrate rival gang's strongholds, play babysitter for people Father finds important, so on and so forth. Never been trained with any close combat weapons apart from the bare minimum with a knife, but I know my way around a magnum. But do I use it? Not when my knuckledusters can do the trick." He smirks. "Had 'em custom made. Father knows a few good weapon makers. Got iron studs in 'em. Put a few hundred pounds of force behind those, and you've got some damage."

Sam had a good point, he wasn't a heavy hitter, more like a scalpel a close in fighter, he could do a lot of damage if applied correctly, and that seemed to be how he was... trained? Or that was what George was putting together on his new friend. It made him all the more happy to make the man's acquaintance.

There was a name that George had heard thrown around, and it made him curious. "So who is Father anyways, All I've heard is shady references and obvious bullshit about the man. What do you know about Father?" George had heard it all, and dismissed most of it as either complete bullshit or utter nonsense, or someone trying to drop a big name to make themselves sound cool. It didn't seem like any of those with Sam however, The Hive's survivors intuition was telling him that this man was the real deal. An Insider.

Sam raised an eyebrow. "Well, Father's my boss. Leader of the Red Diamonds. He's a man to be respected, and you learn not to ask too many questions about him." He gave George a half smile. "You wanna know about him? He's a man who likes his privacy. And as his right hand, it's my job to keep curtains closed." Sam didn't like this man's inquisitive nature; only just meeting, and already thinking he had access to information on the leader of one of the most powerful gangs in East Diamond? No, kid, that's not how things work out here. Sam thought.

"Oh come on." George responded playfully, fishing for information, any that would validate Sam's claim. "That's all a cop out. Any swinging cod could say that." Really George wasn't looking for things like names and addresses, he was looking for an introduction. He was a mover in this city and eventually he was going to be approached, and he'd rather sniff out the winning side on his own. Not to mention he'd already done low level work for just about anyone with a name in this town, Father excluded of course.

"And there's no way I'm ever going to stop asking questions. Failing to be curious is more deadly than whatever killed the cat." George corrected, giving Sam his own trademark smirk.

"So since you know the man so well, maybe you'll know what kind of work he's offering to... entry level partners." George wouldn't let off with his line of inquiry, asking what work Father would have open for entry level street thugs. Nobody was going to get in at the top. George had worked enough gangs to know that even if you had a reputation, something as small as leaning on a local mart for petty cash was not out of the question.

Sam narrowed his eyes slightly at George; he didn't like it when people asked too many questions, especially when the subject was called off limits. Still, he seemed to turn his attention away from Father and more to what jobs they'd be offering. "Father isn't some CEO of a big company. We don't have specific jobs or tasks lined up for 'entry level partners'. If you want in the gang, we'll talk you on a milk run and see how you hold up. If you just wanna prove to be a valuable contact, you tell us the field you specialize in - you said you were good at gathering intel - and we'll see if we can set something up for you. Father works heavily on a case-by-case basis. I can see you're the kind of guy who won't take no for an answer, which, to be frank, is gonna get you killed in this line of work. But hell, I'm in a good mood right now. I'll talk to Father, see what sorta information we might find useful, and give you a call back. I got your number, after all." Sam extends a hand to shake. "Sound like a plan?"

"I think you misunderstand, or perhaps I obfuscated too much." George responded. "I'm not looking to join the Red Diamonds." He had street cred as working for just about every gang that was around except the Diamonds, from some he accepted cash, others credit but in Father's case however he wanted one thing. "I'm looking to trade my services for favors from one of Ruby City's most influential people." George paused to let his offer sink in. "Father has an abundance of muscle and influence, perhaps in return for some information, I can receive something small like a few days protection, or a lean on someone or maybe a good word from the man himself."

George held out his hand separately from Sam's, he was after all offering a counter deal to the man "Sometimes all you can trust is an outsider. If you need my talents or maybe just to test my abilities then give me a ring, and if Father wants some snooping or maybe a little dirt you direct him towards that number."

Sam raised an eyebrow at George. "You want to be an external contact to us? Father is always looking for more of those. I'll let him know about you, and he'll more than likely take you on board, which of course means all of the included benefits will be extended your way." He took the man's hand and shook it. "It sounds like a deal to me." He quickly pulled his hand back, not wanting to risk any creepy crawlies getting onto him. George was an odd character, but by no stretch of the imagination one of the oddest he'd met in recent weeks. "I'll go and let him know about your offer, so expect a ring from him in the next few days. You have anything else you want to discuss, or is it alright if I take off and hit the showers?"

"That was the idea with approaching you in the first place." George despite his looks gave a firm handshake looking Sam in the eyes when he did. George may have been a survivalist, but his word was like bamboo, easily bent and sometimes swayed but seldom broken. "And benefits sounds good to me." George was even more taken with the fights that had just won him quite a bit more cash than he'd walked in with.

"Please do, I can hardly keep the creepy crawlies off of you." The Hive joked giving Sam a little playful wink before excusing himself and passing the man with a nod and farewell. "It was good finally meeting you."
