Dissappearing Ink Empty Dissappearing Ink

Post by JollyLabyrinth Sat Jul 23, 2016 1:05 am

Sam stood on the street corner, tapping his foot impatiently. Tonight was important to the gang, and he was uneasy. He noticed he was uneasy a lot these days, and so did his friends in the gang; some of them pushed him, telling him to try some of the drugs they were peddling, but he never liked the stuff. A clear head was always better for him anyways, especially on nights like tonight. It was a simple job, easy even, just meeting a delivery boy and picking up a package, but it was what was in the package that was important: ink. Not just any ordinary printer ink, no, this ink was the same type used in the printing of money, and so an absolute necessity for counterfeiting. Unfortunately, the company that sold the ink knew that their product could be used for this purpose, and so kept tabs on which clients were ordering, and how much. If a client ordered too much too quickly, they'd stop dealing with the client until they submitted themselves to a police investigation. Obviously, the gang couldn't allow that, so they had to abide by the company's rules. This meant that ink shipments were few and far between, so if they didn't get the ink or something went wrong with the delivery, one of their biggest sources of income would run dry for almost two months. Two months is a long time to go with low finances, especially for a gang of this size, so it was important the delivery went off without a hitch. The pressure of the job's imoprtance combined with his general hatred and distrust of Jadetown, Sam was more than a little on edge. He pulled out his smartphone and checked the time; three past eight. Three minutes passed the delivery time. He looked up from his smartphone and started pacing. What's taking them so long?

Dissappearing Ink Empty Re: Dissappearing Ink

Post by V.Carnage Sat Jul 23, 2016 2:20 am

Byron had a new job today.  His freelance working really paid off at times like this when he received a good amount of money for such a simple job.  Just deliver a package.  A package of ink to be exact.  Catch was, the delivery location was over in East Diamond.  Byron didn't mind though, he figured he could handle himself.  He wondered how he was going to know who to deliver the package to, but all the guy who gave him the job said was that Byron would be recognized by his green delivery boy vest which he wore over a plain white t-shirt.  He looked at the piece of paper with the meet up location and set off on foot, carrying the fairly large box with both arms wrapped around it.

It was a long trek on a sunny yet mild day.  Byron would have been sweating if he wasn't using his powers to keep himself cool.  The box was fairly heavy but Byron was having little trouble with how much he exercised.  A little manual labor like this was nothing to him.  When he first made it to Jadetown Byron saw the streets bustling with life.  The meet up point, however, was farther in than this so he continued on, pushing through the crowds, doing his best to keep the package from harm.

Byron made it to a less crowded area.  "Alright, almost there." Byron glanced down at the package in his arms,  "I just have to get this delivered, and I'll have made good money."  He smiled, looking at his watch.  It was almost time for the meet up but he should make it with time to spare.  Byron continued merrily onward, and almost immediately two men jumped out of a nearby alleyway.  Well, this doesn't look good.  "Hey kid," one called over.  Two of his teeth were missing and he wore an open vest.  "What'cha got in that package there?"

Byron's brow furrowed, "Nothing for you," Byron said defiantly.  The two cackled and his partner with a scar running along the edge of his face spoke up this time, "C'mon, just let us have a peak."  He pulled out a switch blade and pointed it at Byron, "And lend us some money while you're at it."  His grin widened as a third stepped behind Byron, holding a crowbar.  The man with the missing teeth pulled out a switch blade of his own, twirling it in his fingers to show off his prowess.

Byron glared at the two in front of him, all too aware of the third behind him.  "It's people like you that I hate the most.  You think just because you can use a weapon that you should use it to take from others.  Well I will show you that you can't just look down on others like that!"  Byron was ready to charge in, but stopped himself.  He just recalled the package that he was carrying.  The contents were fragile and couldn't take too much bouncing around.  Fighting with this thing on his person would ruin everything.  He wouldn't get his pay, and worse, he probably wouldn't get hired again.  Frustration.  Conflict.  Reluctance.  Byron could not fight them like this.  He had to escape somehow.  Byron hated running away.  Not just hated, he absolutely loathed it.  He despised leaving people like this to run a muck.  But he had no choice.  If he was to continue his way of life here in Ruby City, he needed to make money.  And if this delivery fell through, he would be short on that.  He couldn't screw this up for a couple of street thugs.

Rage burned within his eyes and his skin began to redden, his power accidentally letting itself show.  For a while, no one moved,  "Well kid, you were gonna show us something, weren't you?" the scarred man taunted.  Byron tried to ignore the blatant provocation, but his body heat up flared up even further for a moment.  He moved the package under his right arm and pressed it against his body.  "Or are you too scared?" He laughed, obnoxiously, purposely exaggerating it to taunt Byron.  That was all he needed.  In one quick motion he was directly in front of the scared man and had his left foot in the air within inches of the man's skull.  It made contact, and the man went flying.  The two remaining were dazed, but Byron knew it would only last a moment.  He took the opportunity and sprinted, box tight up against his searing flesh.  Anger boiling, he let out a frustrated grunt.  Every fiber of his being wanting to turn around and show them what he was made of.  But he ignore it.  He continued running, now officially late for his meet up.

After a minute of running, Byron slowed down and looked back.  It didn't look like they were following him.  Byron caught his breath and growled as he kicked an empty can across the sidewalk.  He readjusted the box to once again hold it with two hands and continued on.  Just up ahead was his meet up place.  He didn't know who he was delivering to exactly, but he saw a brown haired man standing on a street corner, seemingly out of place.  He was tapping his foot impatiently.  Further inspection revealed many scars visible through the shirt with the top few buttons undone.  Could this be the guy?

Dissappearing Ink Empty Re: Dissappearing Ink

Post by JollyLabyrinth Sat Jul 23, 2016 2:32 am

Sam heard heavy footsteps running towards him, and he instinctively jumped and turned to face them, his fists slightly raised; he was paranoid of getting jumped, but thankfully saw the green vest of the delivery boy. He was running, his face red and sweaty, but the package was in his arms. "About frikkin' time, kid." Sam called to him, aggravated. He was concerned; the ink was supposed to able to handle some jostling, but this kid was running with his cargo. Sam stopped for a moment to wonder if the kid got jumped, and hurried down the sidewalk to meet him; he needed to get this package out of the kid's hands before something else happened. "Sorry, been a long day." He quickly said, pulling out the money he was to give the boy for the delivery. Once the boy took the money, he rather forcefully took the box from his hands and immediately noticed something was off; the box was warm. No, not warm, it was hot. Why the hell was a box of ink hot?
He turned back to the kid. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up a second kid. What the hell happened here?" He locked eyes with him. "Why's the package messed up like this? Why's it hot, what happened?!" Angry, and slightly panicking, he forcefully grabbed the kid by the shoulder. "Do you have any idea what this package is?! It's INK! You don't heat up ink, it messes with the chemicals in it! And this stuff isn't exactly the stuff your teachers put in their red pens to put that big red 'F' on your tests when you screw them up! This stuff gets screwed up, it can't go in the presses, and it's REALLY expensive!" He was yelling now; he didn't have to check the package to know the ink was unusable. Two months of income; gone. All because this kid decided to bake the damn box.

Dissappearing Ink Empty Re: Dissappearing Ink

Post by V.Carnage Sat Jul 23, 2016 3:08 am

The man with the scars on his chest called over to Byron.  So that is him.  Sam wasn't quite the person Byron had been expecting, but that much didn't matter.  All that mattered was that this man got the package.  "I'm sorry for being late.  Ran into a bit of a hold up along the way."  Sam pulled out some money and handed it to Byron.  "Thank-" the box was practically ripped from his grasp, "-you..." The man held the box for a moment, examining it.  Could there have been something wrong?  Was there some sort of mix up?

The next thing he knew, the man with scars on his chest was yelling at him.  He asked angrily why the package was so hot.  "What do you mean it's ho-" Byron stopped mid-sentence. Shit!  Byron realized he let his power run loose again.  But did it really wreck the package?  It couldn't have been that bad right?  Based on the way Sam was holding the box, it seemed like it was that bad.  "I-" Byron stammered, failing to find the words.  All the while, Sam continued to cuss him out.  He'd wrecked the delivery, it was all over.  Byron put a hand to his face.

It's all THEIR fault!  The redness on Byron's skin that had been fading out suddenly returned, the occasional lick of steam wafting up from his body.  Byron's own brand of anger streaming from his pores.  If those bastards hadn't tried to jump me... If I could have at least stayed and fought them... I... I...  Byron caught himself.  Calm, Calm and cool.  He took a deep breath in, then breathed out.  Sam would notice the redness disappear from his skin unnaturally fast, as if it had never been there in the first place.  Byron had his head lowered.

He raised his head, allowing his eyes to met Sam's.  "I am extremely sorry for the trouble." Byron apologized as genuinely as he could, "A couple of basta- *cough* men attempted to mug me along the way.  I managed to kick- *cough* get away, but it seems I was agitated enough that my, ah, ability flared up and caused this issue."  Byron grabbed the money and held it back out to Sam.  "I truly apologize for the inconvenience I have caused."

Sam's eye twitched for a moment. The kid got jumped, which meant Sam's fears were realized. Whether they knew what the package was or not was irrelevant, the point is a group of gangers were here in Jadetown and saw a kid with a package. Odds were they also saw Sam waiting for one. When they reported to their boss, he'd put two and two together, and all of Father's rivals would know they were kneecapped for a while. It was going to be a rough two months.
When the delivery boy apologized, part of Sam felt bad for his tirade; the kid wasn't at fault. It was moronic for the shipping company to employ a kid whose powers caused him to superheat on a delivery of ink. Still, kid should learn how to handle his powers, and his inability to might just kill the gang. Without hesitation, Sam snatched the money back from the kid. "Oh, you've caused a helluva lot more than an inconvenience. But what's done is done and it can't be helped. If you ever take a job like this again, tell whoever the hell is hiring you about that 'ability' of yours. That's the sorta stuff that ruins merchandise." Sam fixed the box under his arm. "Don't bother telling your supervisor about what happened out here; these white collars won't give a crap, and the money's already wasted; no refunds, no redeliveries. Just..." He ran a hand through his hair. "Get the hell outta here..." Sam started back home with the damaged goods; how the hell was he going to explain this to Father? And how on earth could they salvage the situation?

Dissappearing Ink Empty Re: Dissappearing Ink

Post by V.Carnage Sat Jul 23, 2016 3:52 am

Byron watched as Sam walked off with the package of spoiled goods and his failed paycheck.  He hadn't said another word to Sam and it was probably for the best.  There wasn't really anything to say.  Byron had screwed up, plain and simple.  There was no way he could work for that ink company anymore, especially since he now knew one bad day could wreck an entire shipment.

Byron couldn't tell Sam he had more control of his powers than he let on.  It would have only made matters worse.  He by no means purposefully sabotaged the delivery.  While Byron had control over his powers in general, what he didn't have control of was his emotions.  From what he could tell, it seemed as though his emotions could easily disrupt his control.  If he didn't gain better control, something like this could happen again, or worse.  This was a lesson Byron would not soon forget.

Byron turned around and began his trip back to West Citrine.  Well, guess I need to find another job to do tomorrow to supplement today's fiasco.  Byron's face began to relax.  He thought back to Sam and how serious he had been, and hoped he was simply exaggerating.  He knew there was nothing he could do, but the thought still stuck with him.  Byron left East Diamond, a group of six men all unconscious, left on the street.  One had three missing teeth and an open vest.  Another had a scar running along the side of his face and a swollen bruise covering the other side.  All of them were left with mysterious sunburns covering their bodies.
