Crossed Lines and Consequences Empty Crossed Lines and Consequences

Post by Charon Thu Jul 21, 2016 8:44 pm

Charon sat in the warehouse, one of his safehouses that he had acquired when he gained control of this area of town from the other gang. It was a decent spot, or at least it would be once Charon finished getting all of the blood and bad smell out of this place. For now though it would suit his purposes. He had sent out a message to Sam specifically and requested a meeting, also asking that they would keep this between them for the time being. Charon wasn't quite sure how Sam would feel about what he would propose, but the only way to find out was to ask. Charon's emotions were hard to read with his mask on, but anyone walking in to the room would be able to tell that he was in a rather bad mood.

When Sam did arrive, he saw Marcus and Mute were waiting outside the building, armed with the new weapons that Father had provided. They looked him over before waving him through, seeing that it was indeed the same man they had met at the restaurant the other night. Once Sam was through the gate it was only a door away before he'd see Charon at a table with a box in the middle of the table. "Sam, thank you for coming. Would you mind taking a seat? I'm afraid I have a favor I need to ask of you"

Sam entered the warehouse; the stench was less than pleasant, but he spent most of his time in a sweat-stained fighting ring, so he was used to rough odors. He came in wearing his typical attire; a loosely buttoned long sleeved shirt and ripped jeans. He had a magnum in a holster on his hip; even with his powers advancing, he felt the streets were getting more dangerous, and even the Crimson Scar needed to know when it was smarted to use a bullet than a punch.
He could immediately tell that the masked man was in less than a good mood. He couldn't help but smirk; it was nice knowing that Mr. Mysterious could in fact be rattled by something, his calm demeanor just his front as all men had. "Don't mention it, pretty boy." Sam said nonchalantly sitting down. After he sat down, he composed himself and became serious. "Father said you requested me personally. Whatever the issue is, must be important for you to be ballsy enough to ask for his right hand man on your first request for temporary help. I'm all ears."

"Don't need your ears for this first part, just your eyes" Charon said before lifting the lid of the box and sliding it over to Sam. The man didn't have to look long to see why Charon was in such a foul mood. Inside of the box was a head, removed from the rest of its body, tongue cut out, and the eyes stabbed through. Whether this had done before or after removing the head wasn't certain, but it was a strong enough message regardless. "That was waiting for me when I came in this morning...Mikey, was a good guy. I don't know what he was doing, but I guarantee you he didn't deserve this" Charon said quietly.

"My information tells me that a gang known as Cerberus did this. Apparently they didn't like my recent acquisition of more territory. This was a warning to stay away, they killed one guy in the hopes that it would scare me. Sadly for them they are very wrong. I'm not sad, I'm pissed" Charon said as his eye stared right at Sam. "So I need your help. I always told my guys that if any of them were ever hurt because of an action I made, I would personally avenge them. So now this Cerberus has become my problem. Having you on my side will make this a far more successful venture, and if I'm lucky perhaps I'll acquire their men as I did for the last gang leader I killed. Honestly, I don't care. I just need payback for this...and who better than the Crimson Scar to help me see justice done?"

Crossed Lines and Consequences Empty Re: Crossed Lines and Consequences

Sam's eye twitched slightly when he saw the contents of the box, but apart from that, showed little to know reaction; as grotesque as the image was, he had seen far worse in his time with the Red Diamonds. In his mind, he began filtering through the groups that would have use these sort of tactics to send a message. Charon gave him his answer when he announced "Cerberus", and Sam felt his stomach drop. When Charon finished his request, Sam pushed the box back towards the center of the table. "Cerberus has been on our radar for quite a while now; up-and-coming group using brutal violent tactics, extorting, mugging, killing for hire, that sorta thing. We've been keeping tabs on them, subtly sabotaging jobs of theirs when we can to slow 'em down, but we've been avoiding a head-on encounter. They've never straight crossed us, and word is they've got a Super in their ranks. Most people say it's just rumors, but I can say from personal experience that they've got one: some freaky girl able to transform into a werewolf or something. Saw her rip a guy to shreds in a turf war a while back, when we were still trying to help Theodore's gang. She's their mascot and namesake. Father lost a lot of good men on Theodore's foolish attempt at taking them down; I'm gonna be the only one he sends because he knows I can outrun her."
He looks at Charon, looking at the spot on his mask where his other eye should be; he wasn't going to make eye contact again, he learned that broke his calm. "You understand the situation? I'll help you as per the agreement between our families, but I'm expecting heavy compensation for risking my neck like this."

"I heard that rumor myself, thought that this werewolf girl might be The East District Ripper, but you and I both know that's not the case anymore" Charon said quietly as he couldn't take his eye off of the box. Mikey hadn't been his best fighter nor his brightest, but he had been loyal to Charon from the beginning. He actually looked Charon in the eye and spoke to him with respect instead of fear, it was rare to find a good soldier like that. Charon could still hardly believe that he was gone, used as a message against Charon himself. These bastards would pay, he'd see to that now.

Charon looked to Sam as he said that expected compensation in return for this. Charon supposed that was only fair, though he had no idea what that would be. "I can't think of anything I can give you that Father can't give you already. You already have more money than I do, and my resources are a fraction of yours....all that being said, name what you want and it's yours. You help me take our Cerberus and put their bitch in her place, I'll give you anything in my power to give. Just name your price"

Sam sat back in his chair thought for a moment; the last time his gang tangled with Cerberus, his side had significant casualties. One of his best friends at the time was killed by some knife-wielding maniac, who ended up also giving Lazy Eye his nickname. Sam knew a lot of people who would want words back at home with this "dancing blade".
"Tell you what. I'll run you my normal fare - six hundred dollars - under one condition: There's a bastard of theirs who goes around with two knives. You'll recognize him when you see him; mismatched eyes, probably dyed his hair some crazy color, seems like he's more dancing than fighting. That bastard is brought to me alive, I'll keep my normal fare. If he's not found or dead, gonna have to ramp up the price to eight hundred." He extends his hand to shake. "Deal?"

Charon didn't hesitate. He extended his hand and clasped it with Sam's. "I would have gone up to a thousand though, just for the record" Charon said with a small smirk on his face before pulling his hand back. He reached to his holster and pulled out a new double-barreled pistol that Father had sent as an extra present to personally welcome Charon to the new alliance. Charon had quite enjoyed the look of it, and he already knew who his first kill with it was going to be.

"It's just you and I going in to do the work by the way, my boys are going to secure an escape route should things get too messy. I already lost a man today though, so I'm not going to risk others just to avenge him. This is just us, I have to see it through" Charon said before putting his weapon back in to the holster after making sure it was fully loaded. "Do you have any additional information on Cerberus that's worth sharing? I don't know anything about their leader, only a general idea of where their base of operations is"

Sam leaned forward onto the table. "Cerberus is a gang all about violence. All of these guys are trained fighters, and they're armed to the teeth. What drove us off was a military-grade mounted machine gun they fixed onto a pickup truck. They use it a lot in heists and drive-bys, might be a good thing to bust up if we want to cripple their operations. I remember seeing a guy with a fully automatic shotgun, some katana freak... Most of the rest of them have firearms or fairly high-end melee weapons. These guys aren't gonna be swinging crowbars at us, think more tomahawks. And whoever their leader is, he has 'no honor in surrender' drilled into their head; these guys take no prisoners, and it's gonna be mighty hard getting one." Sam tapped the table. "Which is why I'm much more expecting to be getting an extra two hundred bucks on this mission. These guys are going to put up one helluva fight. If it's just gonna be the two of us, then you better be packing a silencer for that thing." He regarded the pistol in Charon's hand; it was almost exactly like Father's, surely a he ordered for Charon from the same gunsmith. "Apart from that, nothing much. No drugs to burn, no counterfeit money shops to smash... Fairly simple group trying to rule through violence."
He stood up from his seat. "I need one hour to prepare. Just gotta run home and get a few things. I'll meet you there. Any more questions before I dash?"

"One more thing I suppose I should clarify" Charon said. "No questions just a statement. You can have this enemy of yours alive, I'll do what I can about it. This leader though, I don't care who he is or she, or whatever it is. I don't care how big or small or pathetic he is. I will have him for myself, and I will exact justice on him in any way I see fit" Charon said as he looked down to his hands. He clenched a fist before looking up Sam. "I'm not afraid Sam, I hope you know that. I'm going to take this bastard down, no matter what it costs me" he said. Charon turned and walked away, leaving Sam to go and get ready as necessary.

It was an hour later, the time that Charon and Sam had agreed to meet. They were a short distance away from the compound, Charon had only just checked in with the other checkpoints to ensure their getaway was in order. If things became complicated, it might be worth it to strike again. Charon knew that would be risky though, these guys would attack Charon's gang in full force if they didn't succeed tonight. It would just lead to more death, so much more death. Charon couldn't lose tonight, or else he would lose everything.

When Sam entered the area, he'd see Charon attaching the silencer that he had requested for Charon to use. "Things are quiet here, I'm sure they have some of their members out on patrol but there's no telling which of their people are here" he explained before looking towards the building. "Stealth is definitely going to be our best option here...what do you say about cutting the power to make things a bit more interesting?" Charon asked before pulling out a pair of night vision goggles (another tool that Father had purchased for Charon). "It might be the simplest and best way to catch them off guard, for a gang all about violence I'm guessing the last thing they'd expect is an attack on their main compound"

Sam nodded in agreement. "As much as we don't Cerberus, they crossed you, not us. Justice belongs to you, so you get him and do whatever the hell you want with him." As he left, he found it odd that Charon would specify that he was not afraid. He wasn't thinking Charon was, but the fact he pointed it out made Sam wonder...

The hour was spent gathering his gear and changing his clothes into more effective fighting gear: khaki shorts and a wife beater. He donned his specially-made iron-studded knuckledusters, tucked his magnum into the back of his pants, and was off to the meeting place. He saw Charon and went to meet up with him. Charon outlined his plan, and Sam nodded. "Good idea. I'm not gonna be wearing those, though; find it's hard for me to fight with something that bulky on my head, and I can see well enough in the dark." Sam poked his head out from their hiding spot. "Fuse box should be around back of the building. We come across anyone in our path, leave them to me to snap their necks. You keep an eye on the roofs and buildings; someone out of arm's reach sees us, that's your job to shut them up. Understood?"

"As you wish" Charon said before putting Sam's pair of goggles in the bag he had been holding them in. He set it down and slid it under a dumpster, knowing he could come back for that later. There was no sense in taking them with him, it was just more weight that would get in the way. Sam would notice that Charon had switched to his old glock for this mission, a silencer wasn't really well placed on a double barreled pistol, and Charon agreed with Sam that stealth would be far too important here to sacrifice.

"Leave the roofs and buildings to me, you just make sure that we get there" Charon said as he loaded the first chamber of his gun in to place and stood at attention. "Ready when you are, I have your back" Charon said before starting to walk after Sam.

Sam glanced back and forth, nervous about the wide open courtyard; he kissed his knuckledusters for good luck, then dashed into the open. There was no one in sight, thankfully, and he made it to the far end silently. He turned back to check and see if Charon was behind him; the man could keep up, that was good. He snuck along side of the building to the back lot, poking his head around the side. There was one man there, tall guy with black hair and a shotgun on his back. Sam held out his hand to Charon, signaling him to stay put, and crept up behind the man. He stood up behind him in silence, and in one swift motion, wrapped his left arm around his neck and pulled him close, taking him to the ground; focusing as much energy into his blood as he could, he almost instantly crushed the man's throat. He withdrew his hand to see he and compressed it almost down to the spine, causing the head to all but flop off. Note to self: Show a bit of restraint. He thought to himself. He turned back to the building and saw the fusebox. He gestured for Charon to join him. He walked up to the fusebox and frown at the lock on it. "Hope you got a way to open this." Sam whispered.

Crossed Lines and Consequences Empty Re: Crossed Lines and Consequences

Post by Charon Thu Jul 21, 2016 10:26 pm

Charon wasn't the most athletic guy, but very few became a gang leader by being weak or slow. You needed to be able to keep up and protect yourself, or else what good were you? Only the strong survived in the East District, it was the nature of this place. You got stronger, or you fell behind and were eaten by the scavengers. This was clearly a lesson that Sam learned rather well, as he used what seemed like brute strength to nearly tear a man's head from his shoulders. Violence wasn't new to Charon, but even he had never seen power displayed like that before.

And then came the padlock, and neither Sam nor Charon had any way to pick it. "Guess we'll just go with the oldest trick in the book" Charon said before raising his silenced pistol and shooting at the metal holding the lock in place. It fell to the ground with a nearly silent thud, exposing the fuse box and everything Charon had hoped to find. "Jackpot" he said before looking to Sam. "Once we throw the lights we have to move fast, how do you want to hit them?"

Sam scratched the side of his face; truthfully, thought the entire situation was too much for a two man job. He wanted to hit them with military gear and a tank and sixty men at his back. But that wasn't an option at this point. "We gotta move fast. Keep stealth as long as we can. We bust the fusebox, not flip it off, first of all, so the lights stay off. We then get inside, wait for whoever goes to investigate to go passed, likely a group of four or five, then continue to press inside. Once they catch us, which is inevitable, we go all out." He walked over to the man he killed and picked up his shotgun. "Take this; you'll need something better than that peashooter when we're caught. And if the she-wolf turns up, leave her to me; she seems to not really give a crap about bullets. You go find their leader, do whatever revenge you need to do, I'll keep her off of you. Understand?"

"Yeah I follow, and dancing knives I'll leave for you, or pay you two hundred if I kill him in self defense" Charon said as he took the shotgun and checking to make sure that it was loaded. It was good for a few rounds at least, and would likely put most of the men in here down in one shot. It was a nice addition to what he had. Charon wrapped the strap around his shoulder before letting the gun rest against his back. He'd use it, but not until they were discovered.

"Let's move" Charon said before lifting up his gun and firing several shots in to the fuse box. Sparks flew as the circuits began to fry, shutting off the lights and power for the entire building. "Let's go Crimson Scar, I'm expecting one hell of a show" Charon added before they moved forward. They went around and hid behind a nearby wall, listening as a team of four came out as Sam expected to check the box. "We're clear" Charon whispered before opening the door quietly to let Sam go through. Charon slipped on his night vision goggles, ready to go in and start taking out anyone in his way.

Sam was surprisingly quiet as he made his way inside; years in the ring meant he know how to be light on his feet, how to step without putting down too much weight. He could hear arguing, people yelling, demanding answers from upstairs. He found the stairwell and began making his way up; the leader was likely on the third floor of the compound and towards the back; they'd likely have to make their way out of a window or something, as getting back to the stairwell was going to be suicide. He stopped moving at the top of the staircase and froze; he heard the arguing from one of the rooms grow suddenly louder as one of the doors burst open. In the dim light, he saw a door next to him; it looked like a broom closet. Without a word or giving him time to react, he opened the door and grabbed Charon, pushing him into the closet and forcing his way inside with him; it was large enough that the two weren't falling on top of each other, but they were far closer to each other than either was comfortable with.

Sure he didn't like it, but Charon knew that this was the best scenario right now. Hiding in the closet...how grand of me. And to think I was thinking that this would get ugly, I imagined it'd get a lot bloodier before we were forced to do something like this. Still, at least we're not dead yet. This is progress. After the voices got quieter, Charon slowly pushed the door open to see that the stairway was clear. "Come on, we still have a lot of room to make here" Charon said before motioning up the stairs.

The next doorway they opened led to a hallway with multiple doors, however the large room before the hallway seemed completely empty. Something about this though just made Charon feel a bit nervous. The young man raised his weapon as he moved forward, eye glancing about to make sure that no one else was in here with them.

Sam stepped into the room as well; his eyes were nearly completely adjusted to the dark, but he was more focused on what he could hear. There were feet running about in the floors below them, arguing, but there was something else... The sound of stretching, snapping flesh. He pushed his way in front of Charon and called out to the source of the noise. "Bet you're surprised to see me again, eh, Reina?" A large figure stepped out from the hallway.
Crossed Lines and Consequences Werewo10
There was a deep, coarse laughter, more like a beast's growling. "Crimson Scar... Should've called first. I would've had dinner all set out for you... Who's the friend? Smells like that delightful little mouse the boys dragged home yesterday... He was so tender, so sweet..."
Sam shoved Charon to the side and groped for a chair in the dark, slamming the door and barricading it behind him; it wasn't bomb proof, but it would keep the rest of the occupants from sneaking up behind him. "Pretty boy, when you see an opening, run for it." Sam charged at the werewolf, ducking under her swipe and driving his shoulder into her gut, bringing her to the ground with him. She grabbed him off of her and flung him effortlessly against the wall. She walked up to him, raising a claw to swipe. Sam rolled out of the way of it and got to his feet. He glanced over to Charon's figure in the dark; hallway was clear. If Charon was going to go for it, it had to be now.

Crossed Lines and Consequences Empty Re: Crossed Lines and Consequences

Post by Charon Thu Jul 21, 2016 11:36 pm

So this was here, the werewolf that Sam had been describing. The dark wasn't going to be any issue for her, assuming she had the scent of a wolf. Sam wanted to take this one on, and Charon was more than happy to oblige. Of course, that also meant that anyone left on the way to the boss would be left to Charon to handle. "Good luck, make sure you kill this bitch for me" Charon said before getting ready to move forward. Charon suspected that she was talking about Mikey, and she had likely been the one to do all that damage to him before or after he was killed. As much as Charon wanted a shot here, he had to focus on the objective.

Charon took his moment to run to the hallway, heading right for the backdoor. However, a door was suddenly kicked open and Charon skidded to a halt as a man with a katana emerged from the room, smile on his face as he felt the weapon in his hand. Charon quickly lifted his gun to fire but the man's reflexes caused him to attack the gun and send it away from Charon. He took a second swing but Charon turned to where the shotgun on his back absorbed the hit, thought damaging the weapon. Upon removing the blade, the man moved the katana up, catching Charon's face slightly and cutting a severe tear in this mask. The leather fell to the ground....

And everything changed.

Sam, Reina, and the man with the katana suddenly felt the world around them shrinking, paranoia looming over them as the world seemed to turn against them. The man with the katana stumbled backwards as he looked upon Charon's damaged visage. "Wha..what are you?" the man asked as he held his blade up in defense.

Charon looked up, his one read eye focusing on the man as he stood up. "I can see in to your world, I can see your fear. I see that you fear a sad death more than anything else, and this is exactly what I will give you" Charon said as he started to draw closer to the man. The man swung his sword wildly, not taking the time to aim his strikes as he had done before. Charon took this advantage and rushed in, pulling out his switchblade and stabbing it straight through the man's ribs several times. The man just cried out in pain for several moments before his head dropped down limply.

Charon turned back to the hallway, trying to see how Sam and Reina were handling the effects. Charon's mask was damaged, he wouldn't be able to stop this for some time. He couldn't leave Sam here to deal with Reina alone, it might be the death of him.

Reina and Sam immediately stop fighting and stare in the direction of Charon. Sam couldn't shake the sudden sense of fear; it was stupid, it was pointless. The fear had no source! He wasn't afraid of the wolf woman; she was large, fast, and strong, but her size made her easy to dodge. It was... It was...
Charon. A masked man who ruled through fear. "I'm not afraid, Sam." Charon was the source of this fear. He was a super. Not surprising, once he thought about it. He was pulled back to reality when he heard a horrific, inhuman scream. Reina was howling, letting out an unnatural guttural cry. She got down on all fours and began to rush Charon. Sam adjusted his footing, focusing as much of his power as he could into his legs, running to catch the beast; he wasn't sure what speed he hit, but it was definitely as fast as a car. He tackled the beast and wrapped his arm around her neck, pulling on it; her body was much tougher than the man's outside, and even using the full extent of his powers, he was only able to choke her. At Charon's feet, whatever powers he was using were strongest here, worming into his skull. Sam pulled tighter, focusing his mind on strangling the life out of the she-wolf in his arms. "What... the... hell..." He whispered to Charon as he held her, struggling and whining beneath him. "Is... That..."

Crossed Lines and Consequences Empty Re: Crossed Lines and Consequences

Charon saw the wolf woman hurling towards him. He reached around for his shotgun in order to take her down, but found it unncessary as Sam suddenly tackled her and began to pin her down, using all of his strength to hold her back. Charon took a few steps forward, coming within close distance to both Reina and Sam. Charon's face fell upon Sam as he asked his question, and Sam saw for the first time just how disfigured Charon was. His covered eye was in fact pure white, showing that it was blind and didn't actually work. Along with this the right side of his face was burned badly, along with having a few exposed holes in the cheeks to the point where his teeth were visible.

"The kind of power that empires are built off of" Charon said quietly as he removed the shotgun from his back and aimed it right down at Reina. "You killed a friend of mine...mutilated him actually" Charon said as he focused what power he could on Reina. "Consider this justice you bitch" Charon said before pulling the trigger. The gun fired directly in to Reina's face, and her body immediately went limp as the last bit of life left her. Much of the blood and brain matter splattered on to Charon's face, and he made no motion to wipe it off.

He immediately reloaded and went back towards the hall. "Get moving Sam, we have a job to do" Charon said as his paranoia power was hardly easing up on Sam as they walked together.

Sam jumped back as the shotgun blast occurred mere inches from his head. He staggered backwards, staring at the scene before him. He was fighting through the fear, slowly understanding this was his power, and that fear without source was pointless, but the powers combined with the horrific scene... For the first time in a long time, he felt sick upon seeing a corpse. He shook it from his head and continued to follow Charon.
After nearly a full minute of standing in the fear, Sam found he was having little trouble resisting the fear, it reduced to anxiety and uneasiness. He said nothing as they continued to their destination.

Charon knew that this action might have consequences, but it was something he had wanted to hide for some time. Now that Sam knew, there was the possibility that Father would punish Charon for lying to him. Most gangsters didn't enjoy being lied to by subordinates, especially after sending them supplies and other weapons to fight with. Still, this was a matter for another time, they still had a job to do.

Charon walked to the last door in the hallway, grabbing the handle before looking to Sam. He seemed to be understanding the affects of the fear, and he was starting to overcome them. "You good?" Charon asked simply, wanting to make sure Sam was ready for this before they kicked the door down.

Sam said nothing to Charon; he knew himself well enough that if he started talking when his mind was a compromised place like this, he would regret whatever he said. Instead, he answered Charon's question by pushing him out of the way and tearing the door off its hinges, excising the full extent of his strength; Charon's power was to instill fear into people's minds, and Sam was going to prove he could do just as well. Still carrying the door, he entered the room and calmly said to the occupants, "Knock knock. Friendly neighbors checking in. Heard the power was out."

With the door down, the last two occupants were now visible. The first was a man with strikingly purple hair, and Sam would see that he had two very ornate knives strapped to his side. Along with this was a man who carried a custom hatchet on his hip. Based on the room and the way he held himself, it was clear that he was the man that Charon was looking for: the boss.

"Looks like we each get what we want" Charon said as he moved to the side where the boss was, leaving the knife man for Sam to deal with. Charon held up his blade, ready to fight this guy to the death. It was time to fully avenge his fallen comrade.

The knife man moved forward, quickly doing an impressive flip before throwing three smaller throwing knives at Sam. Whether the knives hit or not, the fighter came in and started to move in quick spins and movements, trying to keep the momentum of his knives up to slash Sam open.
