Tin Soldiers and Paper Dolls

Post by Silent on Tue Jul 31, 2018 12:10 am

Sai had taken some time to recover from that mission of his. Killing a Super, he hadn't expected to deal with that so early in his career. Still though, it just made him even more valuable to the Wicked Witch. For now, Sai was going to continue his work for her and continue to gain more money, weapons, and overall necessary supplies to continue his career. She didn't want an Oz target next. The death of Gasper had put them on high alert, especially since all of his bodyguards had been killed with him and no attackers had been responsible for it. Whether the Witch took credit for the attack or not, Sai didn't really care. Being anonymous in a business like this held great power. No, Sai's target was a little more different this time around.

Sai wasn't quite here to kill this time around, though he was certain there would still be plenty of that in spades. Right now he was going against a boss in East Diamond with a pretty threatening reputation, a man by the name of Shoushan. He specialized in human trafficking, the illegal obtaining and selling of people. They were known as "slaves" and there were multitudes of rumors about how Shoushan broke his victims and made them his property. Sai didn't really care about any of that though, he was just here to cause damage to the business and release as many of the slaves as he could. On top of a roof, Sai looked down at the address that the Witch had given him, wanting to get a rough idea of the layout, guards, and potential exit strategies he might need should things go south.

Sai would have a wonderful vantage point over what appeared to be a re-purposed warehouse. It was clear that there was some additional construction put onto the original buildings, particularly on the western side of it where a garage was added, and around where the front entrance was, making it more of a checkpoint than a door. Sai only saw one guard outside, and he was set up in the checkpoint. He seemed to be more of a deterrence and lookout than a fighter, though, and was fully caught up in a crossword puzzle at the time.
All the while, Sai would regularly see various shipping trucks entering and exiting the garage, which only opened when one of the trucks came in or out. It was no stretch of the imagination of the "cargo" inside, and that as a result this was likely one of the most heavily guarded locations in the building, possibly East Diamond considering Shoushan's protective nature and well of resources. Still, that was easily where most of the slaves were, and one of the best places to hit if he felt confident enough in a heavy firefight.

Sai knew that getting in to this place quietly was going to be key here. If he triggered that first lookout, things were going to get infinitely more complicated. Sai was certain that he could easily kill the man, but those trucks would easily notice the dead man and the splatters of blood. Avoiding him and getting inside was going to be the better play, or at least Sai believed that. Using his vantage point, he searched around the perimeter and was able to see an area that he might be able to climb more easily than others, along with being out of sight. Sai moved down the building, heading towards this entry point he's picked.

Around the southern side of the building, Sai would find a fire escape up to the roof. It was part of the original building, and had clearly fallen into disrepair. Several rungs were missing, and it was covered in rust, but it still looked sturdy enough to hold him. The climb would be difficult and dangerous, but on the roof, he would see an unguarded door closed with an old padlock leading inside. The only problem getting to the fire escape would be a chain link fence in the way with wire on the top as a deterrent, but there were no guards outside, and no visible security cameras.

"Hmmm" Sai hummed to himself as he looked at the fence in his way. Scanning around, he knew that he couldn't quite make this work. He'd have to improvise. Climbing up the fence as quietly as he could, he held on with one hand as he slipped out his combat knife. Starting to cut at the wire up top, he wasn't looking to remove the entire wire, just enough for him to slip through. During the escape, he'd have other options for how to get out. It took longer than he wanted, but he was able to cut up a decent part of it. After this, he quickly made his way up the fire escape. Coming to the door, Sai looked at the padlock.

Pulling out his pistol and equipping his new silencer, he fired at the padlock and caused it to fall off. Opening the door, he held the pistol in front of him and slowly moved forward, knowing that he was now moving deep in to enemy territory at this point.

This part of the building was dark and dusty; whatever renovations were done inside, it was clear that the hallway he was currently in was not part of them. The air was dusty, and smelled of mold. Eventually, Sai would come to an old room, likely what used to be the superintendent's office, and he would be able to catch his first glimpse of the interior through the boarded up window.
Inside, Sai would see multiple people, each with a tattoo on the side of their face, wheeling in crates from the garage area. Overseeing this were three Chinese men without the facial tattoos. The workers were unarmed, while the supervisors each had a pistol strapped to their belts. On the sides of the crates were medical labels, saying to be handled with care. They were too small to fit people, so likely housed medical supplies of some sort.
Towards the far end from where the crates were unloaded, Sai could see what was clearly a door not originally part of the building, likely leading to the basement additions. Additionally, he saw the stairs leading down to the main floor from the level he was on; if he was going to get down to the ground floor, he would have to go back through the dark hall and try to find the doorway in near complete darkness.

So far, so good. Right now, Sai only saw three armed assailants. Still though, if someone had a gun they would be dangerous, especially in East Diamond. Sai couldn't get cocky. Killing that Super had been partially a bit of luck on his side. He wasn't ready to throw caution to the wind yet. Sai really studied the layout of the room with the workers and medical supplies, wanting to remember how to get to the lower staircase despite how he got down there. Backing up, he turned and began to enter the darkness once again. Hugging the side of the wall closest to his destination, he tried to feel for a door that would hopefully lead him down.

It took him some time to find the door, most of which was comprised with getting grim and dust all over the hands he was using to feel along the wall. When he found the door, he would find it locked; no padlock this time, the door itself was locked. Assuming he could manage opening it, Sai would see the staircase leading down, and see that there was an awful lot of open space before any cover. If he wanted to stay stealthy, he would have to move quickly and quietly or risk being seen by the guards.

Dang it all. Sai knew that this was a risk, but he didn't have much other choice, especially in this darkness. Everything in this place seemed to be old and rotting though, hopefully it wouldn't take too much pressure to break in to this place. Gripping the doorknob, Sai braced himself for a moment before slamming his weight against the door. If he succeeded at opening it, he would stay completely still, and listen to see if it slowed down the work or if anyone seemed suspicious of the sound.

The door opened with a fairly loud crunch sound as the rotted wood gave way, and he immediately heard someone yelling in Chinese. Thankfully, it seemed that the guards blamed the sound on one of the workers, who stood at attention as the head guard proceeded to yell what could easily be assumed to be Chinese obscenities at him. The worker didn't flinch or protest in any way; he seemed to be one of Shoushan's slaves. Regardless, it was a golden opportunity for Sai to make his way down the stairs and across the open floor to some cover behind some of the medical crates.

Sai poked his head out, just enough to see that no one seemed to fully understand where the noise had actually come from. Smiling to himself, he quietly darted down the stairs. He still had his pistol ready in case this turned ugly. Sai wanted to save combat for as late as possible though. Hiding behind some medical crates, Sai watched the workers and supervisors. He checked the area for any potential cameras. Usually people doing stuff this illegal didn't want to have recordings though. When working resumed, Sai creeped closer to the staircase, constantly moving behind cover as he did so.

To Sai's surprise, he would see multiply security cameras scattered around the building. Whether they were on or not was unclear, but it would be nearly impossible to maneuver without being seen by at least one. Once work resumed and Sai started moving again, he would see another two guards patrolling around the warehouse, and two more casually conversing by the main entrance.
Once he reached the actual door, it would become evident that the door itself was electronically locked with a combination keypad. Based on the DIY wiring leading up to a large light above the door, it seemed obvious that a wrong combination would trigger some sort of alarm.
After a few minutes, the sound of another truck pulling in would interrupt the work of the warehouse. "Hey! Got more merchandise to move to the pens! Need a hand!" A voice called out. The two patrolling guards left where the were standing to move over to the garage area, and about eight people with zip-tied hands and taped over mouths were marched in at gunpoint, heading directly Sai's direction and towards the locked door.

Crap, Sai doubted the cameras were recording, but there was probably some security room where there were guards watching. They were likely just there to make sure no one like Sai entered, or that anyone was skimming off on products of any kind. These workers couldn't really steal a slave, but the medical products could be tampered with easily. Sai would just have to hope for a bit of luck to be on his side. Things would eventually become loud, he was just hoping to avoid it for as long as possible.

Hearing all the commotion, Sai didn't have long to make a decision. He moved over and behind a larger crate, still trying to keep the door in sight for the time being. Remaining behind, he tried to get a good angle. With any luck, perhaps he'd see a guard typing in the code to the door.

None of the guards noticed Sai in his new position; they all seemed more occupied with trying to keep the slaves from trying anything. Once at the door, the guard in front punched in a combination; 3-0-8-7-5. The light above the door lit up green, there was a mechanical buzz, followed by the click of the lock. The door opened on its own with some sound, and the group marched past, taking no notice of the mercenary crouched nearby. After the last went through, the door swung shot, an audible click as it relocked itself, and the light above the door turned off.

Memorizing the combination, Sai waited for the door to shut. Turning his attention back, it seemed like the other workers were moving in to try and continue their work. The two groups were part of the same branch, but they seemed to leave one another alone. Sai waited for the workers to be focused on another area of the facility. Sai moved up, quickly heading to the door. Typing in the code, he quickly slipped inside and shut the door behind him, hoping he could gain entrance before anyone even noticed.

Unfortunately for Sai, things didn't go as smoothly as he would have hoped at this step. Sure enough, the combination unlocked the door, but two of the three guards heard the loud buzz that heralded the unlocking of it and looked over, confused as to the second opening to the pens. One of the guards shouted at him to stop, while the other pulled out a radio and barked into it. Sai managed to close the door behind him before they could get close enough to stop him, but at this point, they surely knew he was there.
The stairwell he was in, however, was silent. No guards were running at him from the stairs, at least. The narrow stairwell was brightly lit with fluorescent lights overhead, uncomfortably and jarringly bright. It went down quite some way before reaching a landing which led to a short hallway, and then a door. If Sai tried the knob, he would find it unlocked.

Sai wasn't stupid. Sure enough, that shouting was directed at him. Still, he could do a lot of damage from inside. He'd have to deal with the guards that came down here, but there was also a lot of "merchandise" down here that he might be able to make some threats with. For now though, he'd have to clear our the room down here before worrying about getting out again. Once again, this was now a time sensitive mission. With a known intruder, backup could be on the way any moment. He'd have to work fast once again.

One of these days, a stealth mission would actually succeed.

Moving forward, Sai held his gun forward. He didn't hear the guard on the radio, but he was certain that the guards would have some form of communication for something like this. Sai was moving forward, believing that everyone knew he was here. With one hand on his pistol, he tested the door just to see if it was unlocked. The moment he realized it was, he pulled back and kicked the door open before quickly moving forward, gun ready to fire at any one he deemed dangerous.

As soon as the door was kicked in, a large white man with one of the facial tattoos began firing in Sai's direction. The shots weren't very accurate, but they were an instant reaction of a man with his weapon trained on the door. From down the main corridor, leading out of this little room, Sai could hear the sounds of another scuffle breaking; it wouldn't be hard to deduce that with the sound of an intruder breaking in, some of the slaves Sai saw getting marched down here decided to try and make a heroic escape. While unlikely to succeed, it meant that Sai wasn't going to have to worry about any quick reinforcements from that direction anytime soon, and he'd hear the door opening well in advance if someone punched in the code behind him.
For now, the only threat was the dead-eyed man firing his weapon at Sai.
Sai's instinctive rounds clipped the guard in the shoulder, causing him to stagger backwards and slump to the floor. He wasn't dead, but he was certainly in pain. The guard cried out from his wound, but shakily raised the gun to fire at Sai again.

The man might not have fired accurately, but it was hard to miss a man that walked right through a doorway. A shot pierced Sai's stomach, though thankfully didn't pierce anything vital yet. Still, this was going to suck to make it through. Almost falling down, Sai clutched the injury as blood pooled out of the wound. Dang it, this was going to slow him down tremendously. Glaring back at the injured man, Sai raised his gun faster and fired two shots to the man's chest, aiming to take him down permanently this time.

Should he prove successful, Sai would quickly take one of the dark cloths of his outfit and tighten it around the wound, at the very least slowing down the bleeding for the time being. Wanting to try and take advantage of the scuffle up ahead, Sai hurried down the hallway as best he could.

The guard wasn't able to avoid the attack, and so perished without further incident. By the time Sai finished bandaging himself, the sounds of the fight up ahead had reduced significantly. When Sai arrived, he would see that the guards had wiped out all but three of the slaves, two of whom were subdued on the floor, the last of whom was holding one of the four guards by the throat with his bindings. The other three guards had their weapons trained on the man and their backs to Sai.
"Final warning. Drop him, or we shoot both of you. He is as expendable as you are." One of the Chinese guards cautioned.

Walking in on the scuffle, Sai quickly saw an opportunity to take advantage of this situation. Seemed like these guards had done most of the work that he had come to do. Sai was going to let the slaves go, but having them killed was going to cost money as it was. Lifting up his gun, Sai raised his other hand up to his lips, indicating for the slaves to not say anything about him...yet.

Sai walked forward till he was just a few feet behind the guards. "If he was expendaple, you would've fired already. Like this" Sai said before immediately firing, turning and shooting the other armed guards all in the back of the head before they could turn to him fully.

Sure enough, the armed guards were taken off guard enough that Sai had no trouble picking them off. The only one left was the guard the slave was holding, who took advantage of the chaos to slam on the slave's instep and wriggle free of his grasp. Unarmed, he rushed at Sai; normally this sort of act would have some sort of frenzied look accompanying it, as a man with Sai's background would be familiar with, but the guard's face was completely expressionless, his eyes almost dull as he leaped over the two slaves on the ground, lunging at Sai's throat with his bare hands.

Sai turned his head sharply to see the last guard running at him. The man had a strange look to him, but sai couldn't focus on these kind of things right now. Turning, he quickly dispatched the man with two shots to the chest. As the man fell to the ground, Sai walked over and slammed his foot down on the man's neck. As he did this, he also put in another clip into his pistol.

Turning back to look at the remaining slaves, Sai wasn't quite sure what to do. "Congratulations, you've earned your freedom, assuming you can actually escape this facility alive now"

The two slaves on the ground cautiously looked up at him, clearly still terrified by their rescuer. The third narrowed his eyes at him cautiously. "Much appreciated, sir." He said, a touch of skepticism in his voice. "Any chance you could cut us free so we have at least a fighting chance to get out?" He extended his bound hands to Sai. As he did, deeper down the corridor, Sai could hear what sounded like panicked movement like a door being barricaded and someone cursing in an unfamiliar language.

Sai didn't see any problem in it. If these three tried anything, they would likely be easy enough to put down. Right now, he was just worried about getting out now. Taking out his combat knife, he started cutting the bindings of the remaining slaves nearby. Glancing up, Sai turned his head sharply in time to hear the noises of the barricading.

"Wait here" Sai said before quickly moving and making his way down the corridor. Pistol up, he looked around for whatever had made that sound.
