Shaking Things Up

Post by Equilibrium on Sun May 06, 2018 3:56 pm

Yin and Yang Equilan were having a wonderful day, as was usual for them. It was Saturday, after all, so they decided to kill the day participating in two of their favorite activities: shopping and people watching. While there weren't a number of interesting people out and about, they had both found a significant amount of wonderful things to buy. Both of them carried two bags from various stores in the shopping center (Yin had gotten a new pair of shoes and a few books from their favorite book shop, while Yang had gotten some black nail polish and a new keyboard for his laptop), and as the afternoon waned on, they decided to go to one of their favorite places to get a late lunch.
They walked into Eddie's Eats, their hard soled shoes clicking loudly on the tile floor as though it were only one pair of footsteps. They strode up to the counter, ordered two hamburgers and a very large portion of fries, then retreated to one of the booths to wait as their food was prepared.
"Do you think it wise for us to be eating such a high calorie meal today, darling sister?" Yang asked.
"Why wouldn't it be? We've been walking all day, and we still have the trek home to make. I'm sure some fries and greasy beef won't ruin our figures, fretful brother."
"A fair point, wise sister."
"I always have one."
"Indeed."
The two sat in relative silence, both surveying the restaurant to indulge their habit of people watching as they waited for their food to be prepared.

Today had been an absolute bust for Roy Wulf as he strolled into Eddie's Eats, who were in the running for best milkshakes in the city. He was going to cheer himself up with a nice sweet strawberry milkshake, after all he'd been out and about with only a bagel for breakfast. He wasn't too far behind the twins after they'd ordered and smiled at the elderly woman taking the orders when she remembered his order.
"A Medium Strawberry Milkshake dear?" The woman's scratchy tone was hard to listen to but her words were so sweet.
"Yes, thank you." Roy responded back gladly before paying up with a few crumpled dollar bills from his wallet and setting them on the counter, waving off the few pennies change, before moving to a seat near the counter, and leaning up against it, crossing his arms and waiting for the heavenly deliciousness that was his coming shake. Keeping his mind off the waste of a day this whole debacle had been, the clubs that would have him weren't physically active enough to fill his need to move, and those he'd applied to were already infected by the poisonous group think of the ones he'd left or more so been kicked out of.

That was when Roy, in his own world, decided that he needed a new approach.

The twins heard their number called, and stood in unison, walking over to the counter to pick up their food. On their way, they saw Roy sitting at the counter, a strawberry shake in front of him and an upset look on his face.
Shame to see someone eating alone, isn't it, loving brother?
Indeed it is, sympathetic sister.
The two smirked, almost a full smile between the two of them. They retrieved their food and sat themselves down on either side of Roy; it seemed fairly obvious from his body language and the look on his face that he wanted to be left alone, but the twins seldom troubled themselves with something as trivial as other people's desires.
"What have we here, good sister?" Yang asked, looking directly at Roy to his left.
"If memory serves, curious brother, he's another student from school." Yin answered, mirroring her brother's gaze on Roy from his other side.
"Pity to see someone as capable-looking as him isolating himself on such a beautiful Saturday."
"Couldn't agree more. We should keep him company, help to cure his loneliness."
The twins donned a friendly smile and casually each ate a few fries, watching Roy's reaction to their sudden insertion into his life.

It wasn't too long after Roy received his creamy milkshake that he noticed the odd pair that made a quick move to surround him sitting on either side of him. The athlete's eyes darted from each of the near androgynous pair to the other. Then began to talk about him like he wasn't in the room causing his brow to furrow.
"You two have me at a disadvantage." He spoke aloud but not specifically to one or the other, instead letting them decide who should answer as he took a long slow sip of his milkshake.

The two laughed at Roy's remark, the sound reverberating through the diner, causing a few people to look over in confusion. The two leaned forward on the counter in unison. "We often do." Yin said.
"Perks of having another half." Yang added.
"But there's not a lot of disadvantages that people don't put on themselves." They chimed in perfect unison, smiling at Roy coldly.
"For example, we currently don't know your name." Yang said after a short pause.
"So we'll ask you. What's your name?" Yin asked, her voice almost sing-song.
"We'll tell you ours if you do. Then no one has that disadvantage." They once again spoke as though a single person.

"Roy Wulf, former member of the Alabaster High football team." Roy introduced, after his falling out with the team be was quite the topic of gossip around the school, mostly negative. Not that it bothered Roy, who seemed to wear the negative press with pride.
Again he would take another long drink from the Milkshake which made dealing with these two that much easier. The two of them were a little unsettling to say the least, they must have had some telepathic link or something. Not that it made much of a difference for him, outside the fact he had to deal with them now.

The twins leaned back and raised an eyebrow at each other, grinning ear to ear. They leaned back forward and nodded. "Thank you, Roy. We've heard a little bit about you." Yin cooed.
"And we think you've heard a bit about us." Yang continued. "That there is my lovely sister, Yin Equilan."
"And that there is my perfect brother, Yang Equilan."
The twins were well known at school, mostly for being teacher's pets, on the honor roll and drama program, and being stuck up brats to students outside their circle of friends. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Wulf." The two chimed in unison. They both took three fries from their pile and quickly ate them.
"Strange he introduced himself with what he used to be instead of what he is, don't you think, good sister?"
"Perhaps that's because he doesn't think he is much anymore, dearest brother."
They both put a hand on the shoulder closest to them, a sympathetic gesture undercut by the smirks on their faces. "Poor thing."

"Well Currently I'm just Roy Wulf. Looking for new hobbies. After that falling out with the football team you're familiar with." Roy explained hand waving their obviously fake concern, or amusement, whatever it was the young mister Wulf wanted none of it.

"Yin and Yang, how creative." Roy quipped, changing the subject from himself, shifting the way he was sitting, a poor attempt to hide how obviously discomforted by it he was."What brings the gruesome twosome out on the town?"

The twins burst into fits of laughter at Roy's nickname for them, taking their hands off his shoulders as they covered their mouths as they laughed. "He thinks we're gruesome, perfect sister."
"How rude of him, wonderful brother." The two giggled again and leaned in closer on either side of him. "But to answer your question, little outcast, we're in town because we were bored." Yin continued.
"And retail therapy always helps alleviate boredom." Yang added. The twins each lifted up one of their shopping bags and shrugged innocently. "Always fun spending father's money."

"I see." Roy responded without much thought, looking at the bag of spoils from the twins obviously successful trip to the mall. "Is that all you do every day?" Asked the white haired boy looking between the two of them, the thought of copious spending money was quite a foreign thought to the son of an immigrant.

Leaning in as they made their reply Roy wouldn't hesitate to finish off the heavenly milkshake slurping down the last couple gulps creating a small ruckus as he did. Not slowing down for the twins response.

The twins shook their heads. "No, not every day. Just days when we don't find anyone interesting." Yang sighed.
"And aren't rehearsing for the school play. We're very important to the drama club." Yin added, leaning slightly closer as she spoke simply to rub in the fact they were part of a club.
The twins each took a bite from their hamburgers and casually leaned on the counter, looking at him with a full smile between the two of them. "And what do you do, Mr. Wulf?"
"We've been curious as to what the most recent victim of the gossip mill is really up to." They said in unison again.

Roy was quick to give an annoyed sideways look at the male of twins. Realizing that their comments were just trying to get under his skin, they had turned the conversation back around on him and he didn't like it one bit. "You two are a veritable Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen." Roy quipped, taking a covert swipe at them as well.

He really didn't care much about Drama, or Chess, or Computer club, those clubs didn't hold anything of value for the white haired red blooded boy. He needed to move, be active, be part of a team! And they were danging rotten fruit in front of his face and trying to feel superior. It was enough to make Roy scoff internally.

"Yes yes." The physical young man dismissed. "What have I been up to? Wasting time mostly. Trying to find something worth my time." He looked between the pair of them. "And really I'm still looking."

The twins raised an eyebrow each at the Olson twins jab, but still maintained their amused smirks. They patiently listened as he explained he wasn't up to much, followed by both adopting mock surprise as he finished speaking. "Did you hear that, sister sweet?"
"I did, brother dear. The Wulf pup doesn't think we're interesting."
"How rude of him to say, wouldn't say?"
"Very rude, indeed. And factually inaccurate."
"Of course, fantastic sister. We wouldn't have gotten lead roles in almost every play we've been in if we weren't interesting."
"So that makes him both rude and unintelligent, delightful brother."
"No wonder he fell out with the football team." They said in unison.
In truth, the two twins were fuming behind their cruel smirks. If there was anything that they were, it was interesting, fascinating, above average, better. The fact someone as low as Roy dared to talk to them so rudely both enraged and intrigued them; so few clapped back against the twins due to their standing in school and their father's wealth.

For the lowly son of a farmer this wasn't too harsh, he'd had battles of words with many a boy and girl, on all the teams he'd been on. He looked back and forth as they rattled off to one another about how shocked they were at his lippy attitude. They were the ones to rub salt in his wounds. The fact they didn't expect reprisal told him that they weren't as smart or socially gifted as they thought they were.

It was his turn to smirk as he pushed the shake away from himself and sat back, bringing both twins into his peripheral vision. "We had a clash of perspectives. It became physical." He corrected matter-of-factly, just to add the cherry on top of the verbal attitude adjustment he'd given them seconds earlier.

The twins giggled at Roy. "So we had heard. Big strong jock, resorting to violence when he doesn't get his way, how original." Yin cooed.
"Violence on school grounds, breaking rules, such a hooligan." Yang added.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk." They shook their heads in unison, their smiles back in full force. They then turned back and took another synchronized bite of their hamburgers.
Rude and violent, but still quite interesting. Yin thought.
Very much so. Is it really a good idea to continue antagonizing someone like that? Yang asked his sister silently.
Are you sympathetic, soft brother?
Of course not, good sister. I'm simply hungry.
That we can agree on.
The twins took several more bites as they silently conversed, occasionally glancing and smirking at Roy as they did.

"Thats quite an assumption you're making." Roy responded. There was quite the rumor that Roy attacked first, and while it was true that he spat in George Mason's face, he didn't throw the first punch as it were. He'd called quite a few of the core team members useless or a waste and from someone in the runnings to break most of the schools varsity football records, it was quite an ego bruise, a bruise that resulted in a seven on one brawl.

"But I won't hold it against someone with such a low opinion of athletes." The platinum blonde responded succinctly running another small swipe at them.

The twins shrugged in unison. "It's not athletes we have a low opinion of." Yin explained.
"Exactly. There are plenty of them who are interesting."
"It's just dull people, rude people, people who think of themselves as better than they actually are."
"We like to think of it as our place to knock people down a peg or two when they get on too high of a horse." Yang concluded.

With his look souring Roy wouldn't have much to say, he didn't have much of a horse left and now he had to deal with these two. "I'm surprised you haven't been in more fights, Some people get violent when you bruise their egos." He would know, that was exactly what he'd done when the fight broke out, and really he'd been the only one punished for it, but now he was carrying on, the entire football team be damned.

The twins laughed again at Roy's comment. "Of course we've been in fights!" Yang exclaimed as he came down from his laughing fit.
"We're simply very good at fighting." Yin added.
"Much like we're good at everything else we do." They both boasted.
They laughed lightly again before both taking a few fries into their mouths.

Roy smiled at the sheer hypocrisy of their mission and their statement they lacked the level of self awareness that would have made them formidable. Instead they were laughable, even pitiable. "I'm sure I could take both of you at once." There was quite a bit of confidence in his voice, the hallmark of an experienced athlete. He'd never had any formal training but Roy was a brawler. But these two didn't look very tough.

"But the mall is neither the time or place to test that." Roy dismissed with a little smile sliding the empty milkshake cup away from him.

The twins laughed again at Roy's bravado. "Aww, listen to the Wulf pup bark, sister sweet."
"It's adorable, really, it is, brother kind."
"Brawn beats brains, one head is better than two, etcetera. I'm sure that's how the phrases go, isn't it?" Yang asked his sister, his voice dripping with obvious sarcasm.
"Oh, of course, brother. Clearly that's how things work." Yin answered, her voice equally sarcastic.
The two laughed again and ate some more of their fries before speaking in unison. "But yes, we agree wholeheartedly. The mall is neither the time nor the place for violence. Perhaps we can meet again in a more appropriate setting."

Reaching over Roy snatched Yang's napkin and with a flick of his wrist produced his pen, and jotted his ten digits on the other boys napkin before sliding it to Yin, with a little smirk on his face, having quickly destroyed their near mirror congruity in a quick move.

"If you decide on a time and a place. Let me know." Roy challenged with a smirk that spoke of much confidence. He would snatch up his empty paper milkshake package and tossing it in a nearby trash can before giving the pair a wave, and the opportunity for a parting quip. Essentially giving them a free shot if the chose to take it.

The twins leaned back slightly and raised an eyebrow at Roy's sudden agreement to violence. They sat in relative silence, watching him as he threw out his shake and left, not saying anything. Once he was gone, the twins turned to one another. "Well, he was certainly quite forward about what he wanted, wasn't he, loving sister?"
"Indeed he was, wonderful brother. Should we take him up on this offer?"
"It could be an interesting way to kill an afternoon if things get too boring."
"My thoughts precisely."
The two sat in silence for the rest of their meal before picking up their things and heading home themselves.
