Homecoming

Post by JollyLabyrinth on Wed Aug 17, 2016 9:49 pm

Of all the places to set up... Sam thought to himself after finally reaching the thirtieth floor of the hotel Charon had made his new office. Despite the Janitor assuring him that the elevator was in perfect working order, Sam wasn't about to trust any technology in Mocca City with his life. He'd rather get a workout than a wheelchair.
It had been three days since Father's funeral, and Sam decided it was time to make good on his promise to Charon and come back to work. He was by no means bright and chipper, but he was functional for work, and work would help clear his head more than moping about. So, after wiping some of the sweat off his forehead and taking a moment to steady his heartbeat, he knocked on the door to Charon's penthouse. "Charon, sir. It's Sam. You said you wanted me to come straight to you when I came back."

The door opened, and Sam would see that Mute was standing there. He had a gun in hand but made no motion to raise it as he saw Sam. Mute just nodded before stepping aside, motioning his head in the direction that Charon was. The masked man was sitting at a desk, looking over some serious paperwork with his one good eye. He looked very deep in thought as he didn't even look up at Sam. Charon was only brought out of his daze when Mute tapped on the wall, finally snapping Charon out of it.

"Hmm? Oh! Sam, forgive me, been very busy with all of this stuff" Charon said as he stood up and walked over towards Sam, hand extended to shake it. "You came back at an opportune time Sam, I have need of you and your skills"

Sam firmly took Charon's hand and couldn't help but smile to himself. While Charon and Father may have had many similarities, Father at least was organized enough to have Jefferson take care of most of the paperwork. Sam wasn't quite sure why he found this to be a relief seeing this difference between the two, but it didn't matter. It seemed larger matters were afoot.
"Don't worry about it, Charon. I did kinda drop by unannounced. What do you need me to do?"

"Oh we will discuss that later, I want to show you what I've been working on" Charon said as he motioned to the paperwork. "I'm starting work on turning our merry gang of killers into a legitimate business" he said before taking a seat. "Provate Security, that's the step that's going to bring us out of the dark. The boys will be able to do what they do best while getting paid for it"

Charon looked over to Sam and smiled. "It's a great way to make all of our dirty money clean as well"

Sam sat down on the opposite side of the desk and folded his arms lightly. Legitimate business? He thought. Father had talked about getting a business front some time ago, but the idea fell through due to multiple complications Father didn't want to discuss. They instead laundered their money through multiple small business they had in a bit of a choke hold. "So, what, we're gonna be... Hired muscle? Bodyguards?" He asked, somewhat skeptical. "And we're still transitioning into Typhon. Is now really the smartest time to come out of the dark? Yeah, we're about as powerful as the Red Diamonds were, but sticking our neck out this fast after rough waters might cause confusion in the ranks."

"it won't be the entire gang involved. It'll mainly be my own boys along with what members of Cerberus I still have" Charon explained to Sam. "It's going to just be a part of Typhon, not the entire organization. Trust me, doing this will allow us to get some ears in sensitive places. The money coming in will also greatly help"

"We're struggling Sam. One bad heist or operation and we can be gone. My boys can handle this business, but I need you helping me on the more...illegal operations"

Sam cracked his neck; now Charon was speaking his language. The fact that it would be a select few dealing with this protection agency was a relief for Sam, and the idea of getting right back to work was a relief for him. "I'm listening. Who are we hitting, what are we taking, and what's the payoff?" He asked, all business. He himself had a few ideas on how to raise morale, but he wasn't about to interrupt hearing about a good job.

"We need big money fast, something easily sellable in the right hands" Charon said before sliding a picture over to Sam. "There's a jewelry store in the North District. Small size, few guards and few cameras. I want you and I to hit this thing for every valuable they have. With the two of us acting together I believe that we can make a nice payday to help boost up the gang"

"I want you on point for this. I want you out there ASAP to gather Intel on the place. Once you come up with a plan I want you to get back to me, and then we'll strike"

"Sounds like a plan. I've still got a few contacts who can sell them fast for way above their value." Sam shifted in his seat. "Text me the address when I'm taking off, I'll start staking the place this evening. In the mean time, if you don't mind me saying, I've got an idea to help ease the groups together and bring up morale for the men from the Red Diamonds."

Charon raised an eyebrow as Sam apparently wanted to suggest something to help raise morale. Sam knew the Red diamonds better than Chaton ever would, so a wise leader would listen to someone that had that much experience. "Very well Sam, let's hear what you have to say on this. What's the idea?"

Sam moved to the edge of his seat, propping his elbows up on the table. "One of the things that the Red Diamonds were known for was the fighting ring. It brought in a good amount of money, was a relatively healthy way of settling disputes between the men, and was overall entertaining." Sam pointed to Charon. "You be the guy to reinstate this before the men decide to collaborate and try setting it up in hiding for some 'Red Diamond alumni' bull, then it'll show you're in tune with the men. Raise morale, inspire trust in the leader..."
And help me preserve my title as champion. Sam thought to himself. As much legitimate good as it would be to bring back the fighting ring, Sam felt he had little to hold onto and be proud of in this world, and having that to boast was one of them.

Charon touched his hands together in thought as he considered Sam's proposal. The fighting ring was something Charon heard a great deal about but never went to himself. It was going to happen either way, so Charon might as well take the credit for bringing it back. The more respect he earned in these early days the better.

"Consider it done, I'll take care of the details and donate to the prize pool myself" he said with a smile as he kept thinking this over. "Maybe I'll participate now and again, our training was quite effective, and I don't want any of the men thinking that I'm soft"

Sam laughed; Charon may not have had the physical capability to stand up to him in a fight, but training with him was quite fun, and the idea of going toe-to-toe with him again was something he would look forward to. "Fair warning if you do: Orlando plays dirty if you don't take him down fast." He laughed and stood, heading for the door. "I'll scout out the place, get what intel I can. I'll call you when I have something."
