Hunting Grounds

Post by Vexation on Sun Aug 14, 2016 2:08 am

Smell. Find. Hunt. Kill. Kill. Hunt. Kill. Baskerville's misshapen body shook with excitement as he ran through the streets. Hunting was what he was designed to do, so it was what he enjoyed doing. This was going to be the third hunt in as many weeks, and Baskerville was getting good at killing his prey. They always were the same: some resistance via their weapons, embedding metal in his flesh, possibly a melee weapon, always devolving into screaming and fleeing. Baskerville was good at running them down for the most part, save the most recent hunt where one escaped on a motorcycle. Even with his powerful, deformed legs fashioned from human limbs, the German-Shepard sized beast was unable to keep up. Even Klaus lost track of the prey.
Klaus followed Baskerville via the rooftops. His job was simple: Stay hidden and out of sight until all of the clay was resting, then carry it safely back home to the Master. In the event that Baskerville fell instead, his job was to retrieve Baskerville and escape before they could do the same to him. Klaus was good at staying hidden; he was unnaturally fast due to his extra joints in all of his limbs, and unnaturally silent due to his spider-like ability to support himself on any limb, not just his legs, and distinct lack of a mouth or internal organs. He halted on the rooftop overlooking the alleyway; below was significantly more clay than usual, at least fourteen almost-corpses, and they all seemed armed with their peculiar metal-shooting weapons, some larger than the normal one-handed ones they normally carried. They all seemed nervous; Klaus knew it was bad that one of the prey escaped. Now there were consequences. But the Master needed more clay for his masterpiece, so Klaus would carry out his orders. That was his purpose, after all. The group seemed to be unloading some sort of cargo out of a vehicle and moving it into a building. What the cargo was didn't matter; what did matter was that Baskerville be able to hit them hard and fast. Klaus might even need to get involved tonight...

"Let's get going boys, the sooner we do this the sooner we can all go home" Charon said as he picked up a box of cargo on his own. Things had gotten more settled since the execution of Lazy Eye. It was amazing how jamming two coins in to someone's eyes was enough to make the doubters stop their worrying. A few people had tried to resist, and now they were resting in the bottom of some very deep rivers. Order had come back to the gang, Typhon was now regaining its strength. For the time being, they didn't need materials or supplies, they needed money. Charon was working on some deals to make them rich quickly, but he knew that he'd have to start laying some stronger ground work before they really took off. Right now, protecting their shipments was the most important thing.

Charon had to admit that he was a little nervous though. Things had changed. Some of Charon's men had disappeared to never return. Nothing was attacked, only men were taken to never be returned and no one claiming responsibility for the attacks. It was abnormal, and Charon didn't like an enemy he couldn't face directly. That was one of the reasons he had come out himself on this job. Mute was busy fighting in the ring to earn some extra spending money, so Charon was out here to protect his men and cargo. Hopefully it'd just be a quiet night.

Many. Close. Many. Many. Fight. Hunt. Fight. Kill. KILL. KILL. The prey was close. Baskerville's pace picked up, and he let out a loud, piercing shriek, some horrifying cross between a wolf's howl and a man's scream, and immediately rounded the corner, barreling into the alleyway. One of the prey turned around and began to let out a scream of its own, but Baskerville was already in the air and on him, sinking his freshly sharpened teeth (Master was so attentive) into its throat, filling Baskerville's mouth with fresh, metallic-tasted blood. The taste, the smell, it was invigorating, Baskerville's sole purpose in existence. He started shaking as he tore the prey's throat out, letting out sounds between a hyena's laugh and human sobbing as he began rushing for the next victim. It raised a large weapon, which let out a loud bang, sending multiple metal pellets into Baskerville's flesh. The force stopped him in his tracks for a moment, staggering him back a step, but he immediately resumed the assault, leaping on the man, dragging him to the ground and crawling on top of him. He sunk his teeth into the man's face, his gibbering sounds overflowing from his mouth with excitement.
Silently, above the scene, the Bringer of Gifts watched. Two of the soon-to-be's had already transformed into fresh clay at the ferocity of the Great Hound, but the remaining eleven were starting to react. Some already seemed like their resolve was faltering, but one of them, it seemed to be their Master, dressed differently, concealing its face, shouted at them, keeping them from fleeing. Not good. Klaus felt he would certainly have to intervene. Even if Baskerville couldn't technically die, if enough muscle tissue was damaged, Klaus would have trouble saving him and returning him to the Master for mending.

Everything happened so quickly. Before Charon could even tell what was going on, two of his men were already down and injured if not dead. Charon's eye widened as he saw the...thing. What was that!? Charon couldn't let his fear show, not even in the face of this thing. "Boys, take this thing down!" Charon shouted before lifting up his double-barreled pistol and starting to fire right at the creature's face. He didn't know how effective it was going to be, but nothing in this world was immortal. Anything could be killed, and Charon would make sure that this thing was no different. Charon took point, but his men started to follow with firing their weapons as well.

BANG! Something collided with Baskerville's face with so much force, he was knocked off of his prey. The metal spread beneath his skin and against his bone, but thankfully not in a place that would heavily impede his movement, and since none was included in his design, no blood flowed from the wound. He looked up and let out a distorted snarl; this was no mere prey, it seemed to be an alpha, wielding a unique weapon, covering its face, and having the rest of the pack behind it.
Fun kill. Fun kill. Fun! KILL! Baskerville shook for a moment before sprinting forward, trampling over the still screaming prey he had just been gnawing on, leaping off of it towards the Alpha. His jump didn't reach as far as going for the throat, but he managed to grab a hold of the forearm of the limb holding the weapon, sinking his teeth almost all the way to the bone, his weight and momentum twisting the arm awkwardly in its socket. Baskerville rocketed past, landing in the middle of the pack of prey, teeth sinking deeper into the Alpha's arm. He flailed his head back and forth, tugging harder, almost like a pet playing tug, trying to wrench the limb free. His body may have been distorted and misshapen, but he had a significant amount of power behind him.

"AHHHH!" Charon shouted as he felt the sharp teeth sinking in to his flesh. The bite was strong with a great deal of force behind it. Charon felt like his arm was about to be ripped off.

"Boss!" one of the men shouted. Soon several of the men were jumping and grabbing at Baskerville, hoping their combined strength could at least hold the creature in place. While some held on to it, other began to shoot it at point blank range despite its inability to bleed. Charon though, never one to miss an opportunity to cause damage knew what to do. "You two, go! You know what to do!" Charon instructed to two of his men who soon darted off down the alley for some reason.

Charon took his free arm and suddenly moved it forward. For the second time in two weeks, he started to drive his thumb in to someone's eye. This thing might not bleed, but it had eyes for a reason!

Baskerville hardly reacted to the multiple gunshots at first, but as more and more of the prey began piling on, holding him in place, he put more effort into shaking them off than injuring the Alpha. The beast had a surprising amount of force behind it, sending a few men off for a moment before they came right back. Then came the thumb in his eye; Baskerville let out a loud sound like a whimper despite his inability to feel pain, and he released the man's arm, but quickly rotated his head to try and grab the man's wrist. Due to the amount of prey on him however, he only caught air, creating a loud SNAP as his teeth caught nothing, which would likely cause the Alpha to reflexively retract his hand. Baskerville turned his attention to some of the prey on him in frustration, taking a large bite out of the abdomen of one of the men near his front. The prey screamed, and Baskerville forcibly wrenched his head away from the prey, taking a large portion of flesh out. It bashed its whole body in the direction of the wounded prey, causing the entire mass to shift and collapse. Baskerville wriggled out, shook himself, and turned back to the pile, lunging forward and sinking his teeth into the bleeding prey's neck. The pack prevented the Alpha from dying, so the pack would die first.
The Alpha would watch.

Charon snapped his arm back the moment that Baskerville let go. Charon was bleeding from his arm rather badly, but it wasn't enough to get him killed yet. He'd have to get patched up later as the fight was still going on though. Damn it, he needed to come up with something or else he'd lose all of these good men tonight. Chaorn glanced in the direction that the two men had went off. They had to be close to ready by now. Baskerville was currently biting a man in the neck so he was beyond saving, everyone else could be saved though.

Charon let out a sharp whistle. "Everyone with me, fall back!" Charon commanded. As everyone regrouped around Charon they started to make their way down the alley, firing bullets towards Baskerville in an attempt to slow down his inevitable approach once again.

The pack retreated, hailing their shrapnels of metal at him. His flesh was tearing, and he could feel himself slowly weakening, but not enough to deter his attack. He howled, an unnatural cry loud enough to cause significant pain to those close enough, and rushed forward again. His left eye was slightly off center due to the Alpha's previous intrusion, so he missed the Alpha again, falling just short. He rushed forward another few steps, snapping at its ankles, but they were all retreating faster than he could keep up and attack, so Baskerville resorted to a full out run, only snapping when he felt he was close enough, but only ever catching and ripping the Alpha's clothing.
Above, Klaus followed the clay as it fled. Normally, Klaus would end the suffering of the second victim of Klaus, who was still bleeding and crying on the ground, and start prepping the bodies for transport back home, but Baskerville was priority one, and if he didn't pull back soon, Klaus would have to pull him back. So, silently and out of sight, he crawled along the rooftops, following the scene.

Charon felt the teeth nearly graze his skin, watching instead as the teeth ripped a good portion of his black leather jacket off. The thing was targeting Charon, and the young gang leader was starting to come up with a plan. "Everyone aim for the face, damage those eyes as much as you can" Charon said as the boys concentrated fire towards Baskerville's face, hopefully to some positive results.

Charon saw that were coming to a "T" in the alleyway. "All of you go right, I'm heading left" Charon said. Some of the men tried to argue but Charon immediately let that drop. "This things after me, go find the others and tell them to come around. I'll get it ready" Charon said as his men finally agreed. "Come get me you bastard!" Charon shouted before firing two more shots and realizing he was out of ammo. As his men took a left, Charon took a right and just began sprinting down the alleyway, trying to put some distance between himself and Baskerville, but also making sure he didn't get too far away. He needed Baskerville to keep following him if his plan was to work.

Baskerville lowered his head and began running in a serpentine fashion, attempting to minimize the damage done to his eyes as he continued his run. He managed to avoid taking too much damage and could still clearly see when the pack went one direction, and the Alpha went the other.
Isolated. Bleeding. Weak. Easy. Kill. Kill. Baskerville began gibbering again, laughing and whimpering as he turned left, following the shouting Alpha. With no more metal shrapnel embedding itself in him, Baskerville was able to run faster, getting closer and closer to the Alpha. The Alpha, however, was also focusing purely on running, and the metal in Baskerville's skin rendered him only slightly faster than the Alpha, so it took him some time to catch up. After thirty seconds of chasing, however, Baskerville leaped up, caught it's black artificial leather pelt and began pulling back on it, attempting to bring the Alpha down to the ground.

What the hell was this thing? It took hits like it didn't feel anything. No blood either. Was this actually a zombie? Charon wanted to say they didn't exist, but considering the state of the world who was he to talk? Whatever, it had to be killed somehow.

As Charon felt the force on his jacket, he quickly minded the zipper in order to remove himself from it. This thing was getting too close for comfort though, and Charon hoped that his crew was ready. Charon made a final turn as he began to ran to an exit to these alleyways. He just had to get a few feet further. Charon sent out a sharp whistle, prepping his boys for what they were about to do.

Baskerville stumbled back a few feet as the Alpha's pelt slide off. He shook it vigorously for a moment before he realized he hadn't caught the Alpha, then threw it to the side, howled again, and charged forward. Alpha rounded the corner, leaping into the air and running along the far wall for a few feet before hitting the ground again and resuming his chase. Alpha had put a significant distance between the two, but the scent of blood invigorated Baskerville; he was gaining much quicker on the Alpha. Just a few more feet and he'd be able to sink his teeth into the prey's soft, supple flesh...

"Now!" Charon shouted in the hopes that his men had enough time to prepare for the attack. Baskervilles would see a vehicle moved at the end of the alleyway before noticing a very large metal shooter on the back. "Typhoon comes prepared asshole!" Charon shouted before dicing onto the ground so he was flat. "Fire!"

Mason gave a huge grin as he activated the turret, firing billet after bullet right into the narrow alleyway. Charon was on the ground and Baskervilles was a decently large target, allowing this to be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Baskerville howled in surprise, bits of his muscle tissue being shred from his body. The beast may have been incapable of feeling pain, but it knew damn well when it was taking damage. Baskerville let out a series of gibbering noises at it scrambled back and forth, trying to find cover that wasn't there, and before long, he was incapable of standing any more, a great deal of his flesh ripped away. He collapsed to the ground, whimpering and snarling, but unable to move.
Klaus froze. Baskerville had fallen, unable to fight, unable to flee. It was his job to retrieve Baskerville now, but he couldn't descend while the vehicle-mounted weapon was firing. He had to wait for the air to clear, but then he had to move quick, before it could start once again.

From his ground position Charon just watched as this creature was torn apart piece by piece. "Bigger guns always served me well" Charon said with a grin before turning to the truck and giving a soft whistle. "Cease fire!" he shouted so that Nason would stop wasting ammo.

Mason hopped off the truck and walked over to help Charon stand. "He dead?"

"Apparently not, fix that for me" Charon said as he dusted himself off.

"You got it boss" Mason said as he pulled out one of his grenades.

The weapon on the truck had stopped. One of the not-yet corpses hopped off of the vehicle and started making his way over to its Master. Similarly, Klaus took the opportunity to slowly start descending upon the two, silently climbing down the wall. If he was to get Baskerville out of there without getting injured himself, he had to ensure these two wouldn't be able to interfere. The subordinate pulled out a small, fist-sized object, something that seemed harmless enough, but Klaus believed it was safe to guess it wasn't. Stealth out the window, he let go of the wall and landed on top of the living clay, slamming it into the ground next to its Master. Using his unnatural speed, he whirled around, grabbed the masked man by the throat with one hand, and forcefully threw him into the wall Klaus had just been descending. Neither one was dead from this, but it would buy Klaus more than enough time to evacuate with Baskerville. He gracefully leaped over to his fallen comrade in a single step, scooped up the Great Hound, and flung him over his shoulders in a fireman's carry. The headless, four eyed abomination then leaped halfway up the far wall, grabbed a hold of a pipe running up it, and forcibly wrenched it off and tossed it down, showering the two clay hosts with a spray of filthy water and one rusted pipe. He scaled the remainder of the wall and began sprinting back across the rooftops towards the factory, Baskerville kicking and snarling with frustration and a suicidal desire to kill. Klaus would not allow it; the Master's orders were clear, and Baskerville had to be saved.

Everything happened so quickly. Charon and Mason were downed, though not killed. Charon looked up, though Mason was able to respond faster due to not being injured. Mason went to remove the pin from his grenade. "Let them go!" Charon shouted as he pushed Mason out of the way from the descending pipe. Charon watched as the creature saved the hound, both of them disappearing over the rooftop.

"What were those things boss?" Mason asked as he put his grenade away, still physically shaken by what he had seen.

"No idea, but they aren't random creatures. They have a master and a purpose, we're being targeted for some reason" Charon said quietly. He shook his head. Keeping the gang afloat at this rate was going to be impossible unless Charon came up with a quick plan. He couldn't let everyone keep attacking them while they were down, Charon was going to have to show that Typhon wasn't going to just take things like the Red Diamonds did.

Sinew paced back and forth furiously; his frustration was growing. He had succeeded in creating his first creation in Lady Arachna's image wonderfully in the form of Galileo, the Map Maker, but such a tiny thing was hardly worth her beauty. He had been spending the past several weeks attempting to fashion a masterpiece, a colossal, beautiful work worthy of the Lady Arachna, but it was never... quite... perfect... It was always too symmetrical, then not symmetrical enough, too tall, too short, too large, too small... It was infuriating. Add to that the frequent comings and goings of the other members of this "Legion of Terror", Sinew hardly had a moment's peace anymore.
A knock came at the door, interrupting his thoughts and echoing for what seemed like eternity in his skull. "WHAT?!" He shouted through it. The door opened, and in walked Klaus. At first, he was relieved; more clay meant he had more to work with. That joy evaporated as he saw that it wasn't a corpse over his shoulders, but Baskerville. He gestured for Klaus to put the damaged art on the Circle, not far from the base of the masterpiece he was working on. "Oh, Baskerville, precious one, what on earth happened to you?" He gently pet the whimpering hound and cooed softly. "Hush, hush, don't worry... I'll fix you right back up, fix you right up..." He bustled over to the surgical kit he stole from the hospital earlier that week, and hurried back over, pulling out multiple bullets. He would need to use some of the flesh left over from the rat's nest raid to fix him up. As he worked he called out, "GALILEO!"
Above him, he heard a loud clicking noise as Galileo's many bony legs scuttled down from above. Galileo was a simple yet beautiful creation; fashioned from a human skull, minus the jaw, with a total of twenty four eyes placed all around so he could see in a full 360 scope, and eight legs fashioned from ribs, giving them a very spider-like appearance. It let out a gurgled chirping noise, announcing it was present and listening. "Find who did this. Watch them. Fill in the dark corners of the map for me... But stay hidden." He ordered.
Galileo chirped and scuttled out of the room. Sinew turned back to his work, cooing to Baskerville. "Klaus... See to it I'm undisturbed..."
